Simple alternative to Front Console Storage Bin

While I will be putting in the actual Nissan front console storage bin at some point later, I wanted to try some simple alternate items. I will move this to the trunk area later for small items. With a little hook Velcro, the bottom can catch the carpeted floor mat. Not sure how much the Velcro will support, but I will only be putting small items there.

These were available at Target in the drawer/storage section. I picked up the item on the right for $8 at the store (I used price match to the online price in the app). The left item is wider and taller and should probably still fit too.

Is the electronic storage box not big enough for storage? My Ariya has more storage than my current Volvo XC90, and previous 4Runner and Tundra.

I just think putting that extra box on the floor ruins the aesthetic and minimalist look of the interior. That’s just me..
Have a small bag with stuff that won't fit in the center box, I just put it in the passenger seat, but still need to put it elsewhere when there is a passenger. I will put in the Nissan box later, although I don't like that it takes drilling holes, I'll probably use industrial double sided tape there instead.

The plastic box doesn't look great, but for anyone who would rather spend about $100 less it might be useful.

Mercedes has a nice floor tray, the Nissan one tries to match up to the USB floor box but doesn't quite look right (the Ariya USB ports are backlit, that's cool). The Mercedes one is rounded at the corners and looks good standing by itself.

Great idea for the Velcro -- I like this idea for a quick way to keep an extra bin secured, and the bin can be easily taken out and cleaned. The Velcro should be able to secure it well enough -- I had some WeatherTech mats in one of our Leafs, the kind with the raised rim to contain lots of tracked in water and all, and the ones in the rear would slip around when stepping into the car, but the Velcro held them still.

I bought the Nissan front console storage bin already. I thought it was a DIY job, just place it down. NOT. It has to be screwed in and there is no way I am screwing anything into my beauty. Besides, like Hank said, I now believe the extra box on the floor MAY ruin the aesthetic. The "nothingness" on the front floor is something, indeed.
I'm still debating, in mind, as to rather I want to have it installed. So I wish I hadn't jump the gun and paid for it already. However, I wouldn't have figured it would spoil the interior look w/o placing it on the floor. I do not like the look but don't want to admit yet, to my spouse, that I don't really want it.

Maybe there is a way to make it more of a "temporary" installation -- none of the hole drilling! That way it is only there when you really need it?

It comes with a piece of velcro also. It becomes a safety issue if the console shifts toward the driver. I'm sure for Nissan having it screwed in is a CYA matter, us being so litigations now. I need to tinker around with it to see if I thinks it will slide w/o being screwed down. Additionally, the carpet area is split up with this addition. My Premiere mat is 1-piece now. It's becomes 2 pieces. Not sure I want to mess do that.
So owners need to think 2 or 3 times before buying this accessory, IMHO.

I find that the flat front floor in the Ariya to be quite useful. My dog sits on the front floor (with a door mat rug). I leave my grocery bag or a bag of Home Depot stuff next to me on the front floor. No need to open the liftgate or even use the "frunk" if it had one. I am in and out of the car with my stuff quickly.

Heh... a lounge concept needs both a bigger screen and a foot rest. :)

Only the top of the center console moves and not the entire thing. If you really wanted to open up that space shifting the whole console back would give more room. Maybe its to give more room so you can rest a larger laptop/tablet on the motorized storage drawer.
