I will probably use 3M VHB 5952, since it's black and thick enough, but it's good for most general purpose use and common for dashcam mounting. I used some thinner VHB tape to mount a Google speaker to a wall.

The flat floor is nice, but it does need a bin or something with a small side or lip. I find if I put stuff there it can sometimes roll or slip around, and I don't want something to roll under the pedals.
I think it was based on the fact that a right hand drive car has the pedals in the right corner of the car and the drivers left foot blocks the left side, which is a different situation than left hand drive. Though I found that Porsche Taycan has that center bin as optional too, but the floor is raised in the middle.

Hmm. Wonder what the Nissan designers thinks of all of this😊. Seems their original idea was the lounge concept. Passenger crosses their legs, lies back and watches a movie 🍿, while the dog hangs out. And the driver does propilot.

Heh... a lounge concept needs both a bigger screen and a foot rest. :)

Only the top of the center console moves and not the entire thing. If you really wanted to open up that space shifting the whole console back would give more room. Maybe its to give more room so you can rest a larger laptop/tablet on the motorized storage drawer.

Found this good quality basket that fits perfectly inside the edges of the all-weather mat - no need for tape or velcro, and blends in well.

Also another lid basket with matching pattern for the second row, or kept in the trunk.

Maybe there is a way to make it more of a "temporary" installation -- none of the hole drilling! That way it is only there when you really need it?
When I bought mine at the dealer they just placed in down on the floor. They used a velco strip and did not do any drilling? They didn't actually seem to know what to do so at least it isn't permanently installed. I don't like it, it is too shallow and I agree it kind of ruins the open aesthetic. I got some hooks on amazon that clip around the headrest so I can hang bags or a purse behind the passenger seat if I have somebody in the front.

The concept would have made alot more sense if the front seats were a bench seat and you could have had a third passenger up front like in the old days! Imagine not having to buy an ungodly expensive 3 row SUV to drive 6 people? You don't have to look too far back into the 2000s for the last 6 passenger buick sedans. I find the lack of storage very annoying and often my wife's purse on the floor slides under my legs while driving. I'd much rather thave some storage divider there.
