I am very happy with Ioniq5 as my first EV which I have been using since February and has made 12,800 miles so far with zero issues. My experience with Ioniq5 helped my decision to sell my ICE car and go full electric.

I also took possession of Ariya Premiere this month and just completed a 900-mile road trip with my family and enjoyed the ride. Both are great family cars, and I am happy with my decision to go full electric.

I am not a YouTube or cars reviewer but wanted to provide the below comparison so that others could benefit and decide.

Special thanks to Bjorn Nyland’s YouTube reviews which helped me purchase Ariya without a test drive.

Feature2022 Ioniq5 SEL RWD2023 Ariya Premiere FWDComments
Trunk SpaceWinnerIoniq5 has bigger trunk space than Ariya
0 to 60 mphTieTieBoth are same on paper and somehow most of the US based reviewers put a lot of emphasis on this. In my opinion 99% of the general public do not need/use less than 5 sec (0 - 60) acceleration.
Ride ComfortWinnerBoth the cars ride very comfortably. Ariya has a slightly smoother and refined ride.
Front SeatsWinnerZero gravity seats in Ariya are awesome compared to Ioniq5 seats
Premium Feel of materialsWinnerIoniq5 has certain parts of door panel wrapped in Tyvek. It is only a matter of time before they get ripped.
The touch and feel of everything in Ariya are premium compared to Ioniq5.
DC Charging SpeedWinnerAriya will spend more time at the charging stations than Ioniq5, but less time than MACHE or ID4. On my road trip other EV's are charging at much less than the advertised speeds.
Though I received only 110, 90, 70 KW charging speeds, Ariya charging curve was much flat than other EV's.
Miles/Kwh (efficiency)WinnerI typically get 3.9 miles/KWH on Ioniq5 and in Ariya I received 3.2 miles/KWH.
Ariya has 15% more usable battery to compensate the miles/KWH number
Sound proofing/road noiseWinnerIoniq5 is a very quiet car, but Ariya is at the next level.
Audio SystemTieTieBoth the cars have an average audio system.
Driver assistance systemsWinnerI felt Ariya is more centered in the lane and the system was very confident.
MapsWinnerI like Ariya maps better in terms of responsiveness and route planning. However, the user interface of Ioniq5 is better.
Infotainment systemTieTieBoth the infotainment systems are good. Ariya is widget style and Ioniq5 is tile patterned
Regenerative brakingWinnerThe different levels of regen braking in Ioniq5 is amazing. Well done, Hyundai!!
Turning radiusWinnerProbably due to RWD vs FWD.
Steering wheel comfortWinnerThe leather wrapped steering wheel is both comfortable and responsive
Steering wheel controlsWinnerIoniq5 has both drive modes and regen braking levels integrated to steering. Ariya has them on the center console.
HeadlightsWinnerBoth the cars have projection LED lamps. I felt Ariya's headlights are more powerful.
Battery preconditioningWinnerOnly AWD in Ioniq5's get a heat pump (at least in 2022 models) and Hyundai is just rolling out this feature
V2LWinnerAriya does not have this feature. I think all EV's should have this feature. It is not just useful during camping, but it can power the house during power cuts and natural calamities.
Rear wipersWinnerBiggest complaint by Ioniq5 owners
Interior spaceTieTieBoth are about the same.
Camp modeWinnerI did not find a camp/utility mode in Ariya. However, I have seen videos of people camping/sleeping in Ariya
Wi-Fi HotspotWinnerIoniq5 does not have this function
Active grille shuttersWinnerAriya does not have this feature.
Hands free drivingWinnerIoniq5 does not have this function.
FrunkTieTieThough Ioniq5 has a Frunk, it is very small to be useful
Apple Car playWinnerAriya has wireless Apple Car play whereas Ioniq5 has wired car play
Android AutoTieTieBoth have wired Android Auto
Mobile AppTieTie

Thank you so much for this comparison. This is very helpful. Are you able to share the actual battery range? Are you getting 289 miles range?

I am averaging 3.2 miles/kwh with 87Kw battery capacity. The range is around 280 miles currently which involved lot of highway driving. The range changes drastically based on the weather, driving style, terrain and road conditions in EV's.

I think Ariya will meet/exceed the range in good weather conditions
do you feel as if the ariya could've been badged as an infiniti as far as materials, ride comfort, sound deadening goes?
Congratulations and thanks for sharing your experience and comparison. can you share photo of Ariya sticker price?

Refer to earlier post about 10 days ago where Cybergem99 already did that.

Sorry -I meant to respond to Iloveariya2023 regarding the pictures of actual car and sticker that cybergem99 had previously posted.
If both are true then I'm very interested in accepting delivery on my Ariya. I found the Ioniq 5 pretty quiet. Same with the BMW i4 (I own one) and the iX (I don't own one lol).

  • Both the cars ride very comfortably. Ariya has a slightly smoother and refined ride.
  • Ioniq5 is a very quiet car, but Ariya is at the next level.

Demo units started arriving at the dealerships and I hope you get a chace to test drive before your car arrives to decide. We did not get the opportunity to test drive 😕
