AAA offers 15 minute charge to get you to recharge location. The program started in L.A and 5 other cities. This is good vs having to be towed to station. Bottom line dont cut it close. I was watching on you tube for people with freezing temps, the battery drains quicker? The you tube person said if in very cold weather and your vehicle says 100 miles left plan on 50miles to be safe but they also ended Charge before any trip. I dont know how much freezing matters but it is a good point not to get stuck. Not my facts just another thinking point where there are less Charging Stations.Last week where I live the roads got closed heading to Lake Tahoe (snow) people were stuck in traffic and the news stated a couple EV had to turn around due due battery life dropping and not knowing when road would open 30-40 min delay eats up battery and you still need to get to destination. Just realised AAA article was 2012 I cant find update to verify they can still give you quick jump??

Thank you for posting -- good reminder!

Good reminder to change our charging/driving habits when driving an EV in the winter months. I choose to maintain the charge in my EV battery in the upper 50% SOC during the winter. As the youtube you viewed suggested you never know when you could get stuck in traffic for several hours and need that extra juice to heat your cabin.

Another thought?? If your battery is depleted and you needed a tow 1) if a flatbed truck shows up can you put in Neutral with depleted battery?? Is gearshift manual or electronic?

Gear shift is electronic, but if it's the 12V that's dead, it can be jump-started the same as any other car.

According to the manual, if the traction battery is completely discharged, the car will automatically go into Neutral.

So you are saying the Ariya also has a 12V battery, my Prius has one under the back seat. 12V battery makes sense wasnt thinking ,(or thinking to much) :) . Many Prius owners are not aware of 12V battery under rear seat (2013PriusC). So I think the 12V is used for all electronic start up stuff ,right? More knowledge from this sight. Thanks

Yes, the Ariya has a 12V LeadAcid battery under the hood used for starting up and powering the electronics and computers. The car keeps it charged off the traction battery. If you have a model equipped with ProPilot 2.0 it also has a second 12V LiIon battery (presumably for additional power for the ProPilot 2.0 computer) under the floor in the back. This was in a bulletin posted here a few months ago:
(pages 17 and 18 in the attachment)

Incidentally, my wife's 2014 Prius PlugIn with 160K miles on it had the original 12V go dead earlier this week (9 years! Wow!).

You can put into a neutral by following the procedure in the manual 'Neutral Hold Mode' this allows you to get the vehicle out of park. Only downside is you need to have power available to carry out the steps!

1. Push the power switch to start the electric vehicle system.
2. Release the electronic parking brake.
3. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
4. Push the park button on the shift lever.
5. Slide the shift lever to the N (Neutral) position, and hold it for 0.5 second until N appears in the vehicle information display.
6. Slide the shift lever to the N (Neutral) position again, and hold it for 0.5 second, until a message [Park Gear & Park Brake not Applied] appears in the vehicle information display. (See “73. Neutral Hold Mode activated indicator” (P.137).)
7. Place the power switch in the OFF position. The electric vehicle system will turn off with holding the N (Neutral) position.
To exit the Neutral hold mode, place the vehicle in other than N (Neutral) position.

This is from the UK manual, I couldn't find it in the USA manual.
