Ariya areas of improvement

Wanted to start a thread to keep track of things in the Ariya that could be improved:

Adjusting volume can change HVAC settings
When rotation the volume knob clockwise, my hand often brushes against the HVAC touch controls, toggling the Auto or On/Off buttons.

HVAC display hidden
When using CarPlay, the HVAC settings are hidden. In order to see the settings the climate control screen needs to be brought up. One could argue that setting-and-forgetting a target temp (and then turning the HVAC to auto) is one way to approach HVAC use, though I'm used to the basic climate control settings visible at a glance.

Detection for driver alertness too sensitive
My wife was driving the car and the driver alertness detector gave her a couple of warnings. She was driving normally, looking ahead, and didn't even have cruise control turned on. She had on sunglasses and the sun was low in the sky - maybe the system wasn't able to get a good reading?

Update Feb 2023 - this has happened a few times now. I can somewhat reliably reproduce this by looking left/right [checking for traffic] when pulling away from a four-way stop sign.

Object collision warning for objets in front of car when driving in reserve
When backing out of a parking spot, the collision warning will sound for an object in front of me (such as a bush or a wall). This false positive is rather annoying as it can hide the fact that an object is actually behind me.

Setting for disabling speed warning does not persist
The Ariya has a feature displays the speed limit in the dash and HUD, along with blinking the sign for a few seconds if the speed is exceeded. There's an option to turn off the blinking / speed warning but it seems to turn back on every time the car is turned off. Added a thread here to see if there's a workaround.

Overly sensitive front collision detection around sharp curves
When navigating a sharp turn under the speed limit (such as 20mph in a 25mph zone), the front collision detection system consistently triggers. On the same road, a 2nd gen Leaf and a Mach-E don't trigger an alert.

Sporadic Level 2 charging issue (added Apr 2023)

Thank you! Please keep us posted.
How do you like the EStep feature? When I took it for a test drive, I didn’t like it too much. Perhaps I’m not used to it. I ended up turning it off during my test drive. I love the HUD.

Does your car have a Bose system? Good thump?

Is there still film on the driver-facing camera (atop the steering column)? When I was test driving I kept getting this alert until I noticed and removed the film, and I haven't gotten a spurious alert since.

After a few more drives I've concluded that it's not for me as it's not true one-pedal driving. If I have to use the brake pedal - even to slow down from 5mph to a complete stop - I'll just leave E-Step off.

I think only the PLATINUM+ E-4ORCE has the Bose system? The sound system seems OK.

Great suggestion. I checked and the protective film wasn't there.

It hasn't happened since so maybe it really was just a fluke.

I have started using the Estep while driving on streets and turn it off on the freeway. I think once you get past the fact that it is not designed as a "one pedal" driving tool, it makes it more palatable. I enjoy that you can regenerate at least a smidge of power. I am curious of it is using the breaks as when I drive with it, I use very little break pedal?

Me too. I suspect I am beginning to drive like a trucker, especially when eStep is on(local/city traffic). I use the "B" mode more often than not.

I have had my Ariya for 650 miles. When it arrived it showed 350 miles on the battery. I charged at home for the first time with 19% left off a 240 plug with the portable and it charged to 330. I just plugged in with 29% left and it only charged to 318 range. What is going on?

It estimates range based on recent driving habits, so as you drive it more it will eventually work it's way to a range that's appropriate for your driving habits. It takes a few charge cycles for it to work it's way down to whatever that will be for you.

The car is rated for a range of just under 300 (304 for the Venture+), the faster you drive the less range it will provide, since the range rating is based on driving conditions.

In addition to what other members have said, if you use your HVAC prior to your charging, it will affect your range as it will recalibrate your mileage. Don’t be surprise if it goes to under 300 range next time you charge.

Just know one thing..with an EV, it’s like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get….
mylady (couldn't resist)

As a general EV experience, BMS accuracy at the moment of delivery is a bit off. Typical best practice, if range calibration matters to you (I care not a bit as an example), is to occasionally discharge quite low (5-10% and charge relatively fully. Perhaps 90%. Given it's seen this larger excursion it's better able to project it' potential range.
I am attempting to fast charge at a level 3 charger and am having an issue. Both stations are coming up with the error “vehicle timeout.” Has anyone seen that issue before and/or have any ideas what to do?

Do you have a scheduled charge set on your vehicle? If so, then you should push the immediate charge button on the left of the steering wheel (electrical plug icon).

If you are not using scheduled charge, then you might need to hold/push the connector slightly during the connecting process. However, I have not seen this issue.
IME charge schedules don't affect DCFC charging. Perhaps you're not starting the charger quickly enough (going through the payment process, or activating it with the app) after plugging in?

No scheduled charge, but the holding would be something to try next time. On the 4th try, it worked.
