Just got a call that my blue FWD Evolve+ will be at the dealer's in a few days. I test drove a similar one there yesterday - first time actually driving one. It seems to be good value for what you get and the dealer isn't jacking up the price.

However, I'm now leaning toward the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq. I was at the Chicago Auto Show three weeks ago and had the opportunity to ride in a bunch of EV SUV's at their indoor track. The Lyriq is really impressive. It also qualifies for the $7500 tax rebate that the Ariya doesn't. I'm willing to pay more for the Lyriq and it's nicer features / specs. I was also looking at the Chevy Blazer EV. It was at a the Chicago show, but you couldn't get closer than about three feet from the demo pre-prod display model.

Here's a quick graphic comparison of those three vehicles:

What will be the cost estimate out the door after $7500 rebate, you can ballpark$$ estimate. Will maintenance fees be more expensive at Cadillac vs. Nissan Dealers?

I've got a connection to get a friends & family discount on the Lyriq in addition to the $7500. I'll get a much firmer estimate soon, but the option I'm considering is a blue, AWD Luxury 1 model with this cost breakdown via cadillac website - $67,210, less $7.5K would be ~$60K less any F&F discount I can get. FWD Evolve price was going to be $49K plus destination charge, so probably a little over $50K.

Im sure you’re aware that by the time a Lyriq could be delivered to you the IRS would have reduced the $7500 tax credit potential to $3750 due to its battery chemistry. The IRA legislation had stipulated that US mfg. EV battery scrutiny should have actually taken place beginning calendar year 2023. However, to date the IRS has been slow to support the stipulation.

Well, I'm still leaning toward the Lyriq even if the rebate is only $3.5K. I generally keep vehicles 10-12 years (currently driving a 2012 Mazda CX-9) and don't mind paying a little more for something I beleive is worth the cost.

Trust Nissan’s 12 years of electrification experience over GM. That’s all I have to say.

If you just want the Lyriq, then go for it. If the government inventive is a factor: If you're a reservationist and signed Nissan's binding contract, you could get the $7500 for the Ariya. Unless something changes, it's very likely the Lyriq will only qualify for $3750.

Didn't sign any any binding contract with Nissan - $3.75K rebate is better than none at all.

If I can buy an Evolve + for $52K and save myself $15K from buying a Lyriq, my decision is very easy. Nissan's 2.59% interest financing will save you tons of money in the next 3 yrs loan. What will interest be for those buying new EV in the next 3 months? Tripled?

Spend more to save $3750? 👎👎👎👎

Totally get it. You must follow your heart since you anticipate this EV purchase is likely going to be for the long haul. So, if spending a bit more now to get you into your dream car, then your final decision to buy the Lyriq is a no brainer.

Not worried about interest rates - it'll be a cash buy.
If you are a cash buyer than good choice over the Blazer EV. Different class of vehicle I believe. The Ariya is classier than Chevy Blazer and much more in my budget since I needed to take advantage of the 2.49% loan and tax credit. Equinox EV was my second choice but after waiting a year for my BLUE Evolve+ and buying it I'm convinced that this Nissan is the better choice. I did like my Chevy Bolt Premier (and got a great trade in value) but this Ariya is a giant step up in luxury, ride, build quality etc. I do not need the larger size of the Lyric but it isn't way off in price compared to the Ariya Platinum AWD which hasn't been released yet. The Nissan style is refreshing and it rides like a Cadillac so why not purchase both? Sounds like you could. Either way you will enjoy your EV experience. Best of luck.

Plucking down 75G (tax, registration, +fees) in cold hard cash to buy Lyriq is quite noble.

If you buy an Ariya Evolve + for $57K (tax and registration) while taking advantage of 2.59% Nissan financing, you will come out way ahead. Put your 75G in a CD at 5%+ while borrowing 2.59% is a win win.

Your $3750 credit saving will seem very petty.

I purchased my Evolve + with $51K check and $5000 on my new Chase credit card. My new Chase credit card made me $990 cash bonus back. I win!

Plus, I get one year UNLIMITED free EVGO charging. That is an additional saving of about $900 annually. Drive around for free in the first year

I can only charge $2500 on my credit card (F&I guy said company policy) and my bank declined the rest of my down payment. I was exceeded my daily balance. I told them I can come back Monday for the cashier check, not in hurry taking the car home; the GM guy said I could take the car home and came back Mon for the down payment.
Anyway, that's a good idea to bank with CD for the loan while paying it at 2.59% rate. A friend of mine said something similar, but a little complicated than I want, but it's good to know it's there. But you still need to have some fund to pay the loan monthly as the CD stays put.
Oh, I remember why you can charge the $5000 now (b'ness card, duh)...

Haha. Great that you're paying attention!

For those who followed my advise by opening up a new Chase Business Card, you will earn $900 cash bonus but must spend $6000 within the first 3 months of opening the card. Get additional 1.5% cash bonus on $6000 spent. That's additional $90 for doing almost NOTHING. Luckily, my dealer allowed 5G on the card.

MY Chase card statement just arrived 2 weeks ago. I will pay in FULL or take advantage of 0% APY for the first year. I will pay off completely which is due next week.

@gregmooty, this is for you.

Hank. It’s obvious to me that @gregmooty is smitten with the Cadillac Lyriq, just as much as you are with your Ariya. I tend to agree with you that purchasing the Ariya has many physical and financial pluses going for it as you have illustrated. However, you just can’t force anyone to be passionate about the Ariya as you and I might be. So let’s just let @gregmooty move ahead with the purchase of his Lyriq and once he has had a chance to drive it for a time, perhaps he will be kind enough to return to this forum and give us his full review.😁

My problem with the GM EV is that it’s gonna be made in Mexico. I don’t buy American cars but that just makes it 100% don’t buy ever for me.

For me beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the overall practical size of a car is factored as well. The Lyriq for example is huge when compared with the Ariya. So in my application the Ariya because it is smaller is “right sized“ for me. I compare the Ariya vs Lyriq equation to my first car a (57 Chevy) when compared to a 1957 Buick Roadmaster. Both cars were popular in their day, but the Roadmaster, it was huge by comparison!
