Blind Spot Alert Failure

I have only driven 398 miles and I have been mostly satisfied with safety features, but I was surprised today when my driver mirror did not pick up or alert me as I tried to merge onto highway, left blinker on and came dangerously close to a car in that lane. While it is always my responsibility as the driver to check before changing lanes, this failure is concerning. Nissan customer care and dealer could not provide any answers. My settings did have all driver assist options “on”.

Yikes. I wonder if other car sped up or had moved to the lane at the same time?

Possible sped up - was moving very fast.
I don't know about you guys but I noticed I'm being cut off more offten than ever before. I think they are aware the Ariya is an EV and want to test the vehicles evasive maneuvers? Who knows but please pay attention cause there are people out there with bad intentions.

I kind of want a dash cam, maybe one that also has a view out the back...

There is I-bsi feature in Arita. Intelligent-blind spot inteeventiion. It can be turned off by pressing the button on the right side of steering wheel. Just thinking maybe you disabled it? Might be good to check.

from manual:

INTELLIGENT BLIND SPOT INTERVENTION (I-BSI)
The I-BSI system helps alert the driver
of other vehicles in adjacent lanes when changing lanes, and helps assist the driver to return the vehicle to the center of the traveling lane.
An indicator light located on the outside mirrors will illuminate if the radar sensors detect a vehicle in the detection zone.
When the BSI system is turned on the I-BSI ON indicator light on the instrument panel illuminates.
To turn on the I-BSI system, push the switch on the steering wheel.
The I-BSI system operates above
approximately 37 mph (60 km/h). If the
system detects a vehicle in the detection
zone and your vehicle is approaching the
lane marker, the BSI system provides an audible warning (three times), flashes the side indicator light and slightly applies the brakes for a short period of time on one side to help return the vehicle back to the traveling lane.
The I-BSI system can be turned on or off through the “Driver Assistance” menu in the vehicle information display.

When you come to a wide merge the sensor won't see that because the lanes are not next to each other, there is an angle between them. This happens with other cars with this system.
But also if you accidently turned off (BSI) on steering wheel and didnt notice it was turned off you could change lanes right into another car. Good Point I will study my buttons tomorrow and as I drive from now on and see a car approaching seeing the Orange Triangle is a good way to verify system is on versus car passes you on left and orange triangle does not come on. Safety First Thanks for opinion. Once in my 2018 Tacoma (BSI) was accidently turned off but luckily I noticed it...and turned back on. BSW is blue button on right top steering wheel. Lights up when car is tirned on also shows car with visual on screen. It does look like it could be accidentle turned off. My thought is if I a car passes me and orange triangle does NOT come on PRESS blue button. (My opinion only)
