Bluetooth Connection Issue (Corrupted Infotainment?)

So here is what I have going on. For the first 24 hours of ownership, the use of my iPhone 13 Pro and Apple CarPlay in my Ariya worked perfectly. But today? Something seems to have gone wrong.

it refuses to connect. Initially I used it via wireless CarPlay, but even today, when attempting to plug it in, the car refuses to see the phone. I’ve deleted the Bluetooth associations on the phone, and have attempted to also remove them from the car (both under Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay, under the “Connections” menu).

Here’s the problem: the car refuses to remove my phone from the Bluetooth menu. I go into the connection menu, select my phone’s name, “delete” and it gives me a “Phone has been deleted. If you want to connect again, please delete “My-Ariya” from your device before pairing.” But no matter how many times I attempt this, the phone’s name is still there. And here’s what happens if I attempt to add it to the CarPlay connection.

And this is what I see on the phone side.

I’ve restarted both the phone and the car several times, but it doesn’t change. I’ve also attempt to connect my iPad, but it too gives the same error instantly upon a pairing attempt. And I’ve attempted resetting the infotainment back to factory settings. I’ve changed the name of the phone and the name of the vehicle’s Bluetooth, which does nothing to help. But to no avail, the phone still appears on the car connection menu, can’t be deleted, modified or selected, and also can’t be re-paired. Any advice?

As an aside, I’ve also noticed that after resetting the infotainment to default settings, I can no longer save any of the edits to User settings, including user name or associated photo. It kind of seems like there is a corruption within the memory/RAM of the system that is running the infotainment screeen.

Do you happen to have another device to try pairing with the car?

The same failure happens when attempting to pair my iPad, instead of my phone.
Here’s a video of me running through the issue.

Disconnecting the 12v battery for a few minutes might hard reset everything, but not sure if that will do anything for the infotainment unit.

I think that is my next step. Now, since this a Platinum+ model, with a 12v battery under the hood, and a second 12v battery under the back storage area for the Pro-Pilot 2.0 hardware, would I need to disconnect both batteries at the same time?

just to be sure we are on the same page, does restarting your phone means you completely powered down your iPhone and powered it back up? This usually solves my problems with WiFi and Bluetooth connections with other devices.

Yup. Slide to power off. Wait a little bit, then boot it up again with the Apple logo on the screen. It does nothing to change the behavior of the pairing.
Update:

I fiddled with the car and phone last night some more, to no avail. However, when I got into the car this morning, the “connection” menu in my Ariya looked like it was attempting to reconnect to the phone every few seconds, even though the phone was no longer paired. However, the car’s menu now allowed me to delete the phone.

Afterwards, I was able to re-pair the phone, and it worked perfectly….

Interesting! I'm glad it's working now. What a brain fart for it to have though.

It kind of reminds me of the joke about three engineers riding in a car that breaks down -- there is a mechanical engineer, an electrical engineer, and a software engineer. The mechanical engineer says that problem is probably the engine. The electrical engineer thinks that it is the electrical system. The software engineer suggests: "Let's get out of the car, shut the doors, then open the doors and get back inside, and then try to start it!" 😆

Read about these kinds of situations in other vehicles, just letting it shut off and restarting later sometimes does it.

Back when that joke came about, the last suggestion was ludicrous.... Today? Not so much! :D (And I'm a Software Engineer.)

Yes exactly! There is quite a bit of software in them nowadays, and rebooting doesn't seem so far fetched! 😆
I received my Platinum plus May 15 and CarPlay was connected, and everything worked fine. Last night I wanted to download my contacts to the Nissan software. I disconnected CarPlay successfully but started to struggle and wound up with the exact conditions in your video. I am encouraged to see that your system regained its sanity. I will give mine a day of driving to see what happens. Thanks for your post.
I’m also having issues with car play in my new Ariya. It will connect fine for a week or so then it stops and I need to delete the pairing and try to re-pair. This time it’s having none of it 😭
Try pressing the off button on the volume control know and holding it until the screens go black. This resets the whole NAV system. No settings are changed.

A late update: I waited a day as I said. I went to run some errands and my infotainment started recovering as MrSteve007 describes above. I am sorry I did not think to make a video. I have had no problems since. I had my second delivery* a few days later and they were very interested in this. I also got a call from my concierge and they both are escalating this to Nissan engineers.

* This may be common to all Nissan EV sales, but "second delivery" is a program where a Nissan rep comes to your house and goes through the instructions provided on delivery and addresses any problems you have had operating the EV or infotainment.
