If price is the most important consideration for you, then you should get a Tesla. No doubt they are cheaper cars. IMO, the Tesla is also worth less. But that’s your choice to make.
As opposed to the Ariya appreciating after purchase? I'm not sure I understand the comment. May I ask what state your are located in?I was able to get a good deal on my Premier . Way below msrp

I’ve experenced a Tesla for a few years, my son has one. I’ve owned an Ariya for a couple months, it’s a better car. The Tesla is stripped down, has a bad ride, feels cramped and is not comfortable for me to sit in. The one screen in the middle with all the controls on it being off center is strange to drive with, it’s not a good experience, feels cheap. I’ paid more for an Ariya and would do it again.an Ariya is worth more than a TeslaAs opposed to the Ariya appreciating after purchase? I'm not sure I understand the comment. I wouldn't pay over MSRP, that's just dealer shenanigans. But they want you to make a connection and justify the higher costs.
Ah ok, you feel the Ariya is a better value even though it costs more.I’ve experenced a Tesla for a few years, my son has one. I’ve owned an Ariya for a couple months, it’s a better car. Regarding current net cost proposition of Tesla. About a week ago the new IRS rules no longer allows Tesla to qualify for the max tax credit of $7500.00. The federal tax credit is currently reduced to 50% of that value or $3750.00 due to Teslas foreign battery composition. It has taken me a while to decide I wanted to buy an Ariya. Pretty frustrating when they’re literally 1000’s out there and you can’t negotiate much of a discount. The best I have been able to find in the color and trim (Evolve+) want is $500 about 140 miles away. Considering Tesla is much lower and still qualifies for the $7,500 and the ID4 also qualifies, Nissan is going to need to offer something better than the current tepid lease discount.

]It is still possible to whittle down the price on Ariya a bit with the right strategy. I was able to locate and negotiate what I thought was a good price for a fairly rare NL Evolve +/light gray int.FWD about two weeks ago. The dealer not only allowed for my $1240 reservation credit but gave me an additional $1K discount off MSRP. Once my transaction was complete I applied the next day for my $500 reservation deposit with Nissan which was credited to my credit card a soon thereafter.
Ok. Now you have me curious. I'm from Tustin. My sister is in the market for an EV. If your dealer is offering way below MSRP, which dealer will that be? Tustin Nissan has 2 Copper Premiere on their lot.Sure, I'm in SoCal, orange county
Before buying, I would suggest you call your insurance company to get a quote on Model Y vs Ariya. Do your homework first and compare TCO.It has taken me a while to decide I wanted to buy an Ariya. The Ariya is definitely a better value. Tesla is a minimalist for a reason. Prior to the price cuts, it was grossly overpriced but they had the EV market themselves. Even with today's further price cuts (and $7500), I still think it's overpriced for what you get.... Nothing!Ah ok, you feel the Ariya is a better value even though it costs more.
I like both vehicles, for different reasons. Not sure about which is a better value yet since the Ariya still too new.
There was some work involved before I could get that, so not sure if your sis is ready to put in some effort into that.Ok. Now you have me curious. I'm from Tustin. 2 weeks ago, my sister casually blurbed out wanting a Model 3 without putting any thought into it. So if your dealer is offering discount, then I'm sure I can influence my sister to get the Ariya at below MSRP at that dealership.
The Tesla is minimalist to cut costs, and it does bother me that Tesla continues this despite having better profit margins per vehicle compared to other manufacturers. (If they could get the UI/controls of the S/X into the 3/Y...) Despite those margins they still dominate in sales, so generally people believe they're a good value. Part of that time they had limited competition in the segment, but they've been competing well for a few years now.The Ariya is definitely a better value. Tesla is a minimalist for a reason. Thank you! Luckily, I dont need to go through the hassle you went through. I bought my Evolve+ at Tustin Nissan. As a repeat buyer, I’m sure I can get the same offer as you. Now, it’s up to my sister if she wants the Ariya or not. It would help if she gets the Ariya because Tustin Nissan has both the Passion Red Empower+ and 2 Copper Premiere (in addition to Black Diamond) on their lot. The Ocean Blue Evolve+ just arrived when I was there 2 nights ago checking out the Venture+ floor board (or lack of). Knowing my sister will pay all cash, maybe this will motivate Tustin Nissan to sell at the same OTD.There was some work involved before I could get that, so not sure if your sis is ready to put in some effort into that.
Here's the story. Early March. First of all I did my homework. I was looking for White empower+ at MSRP 56.360
Within a week I received 2 written offers from Nissan dealerships which had the cars I needed. One from Sacramento and another one from Long Beach Nissan offers were for 56.5K OTD price.
I took those 2 offers and went to my closest dealership which is Irvine Nissan and said If you can get me the exact car I need for $56K OTD + give me a Nissan hat you will earn me business.
They said they would be able to do this. They didn't have the exact config and color I need on the lot, but they said as long as one of the dealership in SoCal has, they would be able to get it for me in 1,5 hours. Which I knew was bullshit. Also what I knew is that they have a Premier in color I need on the lot, so it was just a matter of time for me to get that one offered instead of Empower+. After 40 minutes me hanging there they did it. Initially they wanted $57.5 OTD, but after I explained them that there is actually no difference between the Empower+ and Premiere except for the kickplates and rugs, which I don't need so they can take them off, they agreed to let it go for $56.5K OTD. By that moments I didn't yet mentioned how I wanted to pay. After they pushed the deal to their finance, I told that girl that I want 36month with 2.59APR deal, which just officially ended 3 days ago. And she was able to help me there. So the bottom line is I got my Premiere which is $57K MSRP for $51,5K+4K tax +1K DMV Reg and paperwork .... and + a nissan hat![]()
My advise to your sister is not to mention she'll pay cash for the car, until the very last second in finance office. And have the Check ready for the exact amount she wants to pay. My sister has a lot of junk in her trunk. Getting a Model3 wouldn’t be wise if storage is an issue. God I hope she doesn’t get the MY!
Model S and X are fading away as higher end Mercedes and VW Groups are circling around the high end segment. Tesla’s main bread and butter (profit wise) is their MY. MY is very popular no doubt. The smart shoppers look for value proposition. The car is minimalist, but the software is significantly better. Their level of innovation and features, all from software, is incredible. You then combine that with faster charging and access to the best charging network available and its adds a lot of value. The SC network is opening up, but it still a ways out for nationwide access.
I suspect the model refresh will be done around the time they complete majority of Magic Dock deployment so they can maintain their value edge.
I know the GM. I will tell him upfront “cash”. There’s no reason to play games if they want to compete with Tesla for EV market share. It’s all about bragging rights…..My advise to your sister is not to mention she'll pay cash for the car, until the very last second in finance office. S and X still get an edge from the SC network. They still have a significant software advantage (you can play Steam games!). Its telling that S and X losing more sales to 3 and Y than other manufacturers. Again, strong value proposition of the lower priced cars.Model S and X are fading away as higher end Mercedes and VW Groups are circling around the high end segment.
