Drove my AWD Ariya for the first time today

I was able to get in a test drive today of the car I ordered back in Dec 2021 - it was offloaded from the ship Friday morning. Reservation #107xx. After they do the delivery prep, I’ll be taking it home on Monday. It was awesome to drive.

I originally had a 2012 Leaf, then a 2015 Leaf, currently a 2022 Bolt EUV and next my Ariya AWD. It’s been quite the wait. I’m glad it’s finally here!

That's great! I took delivery of a Copper Premiere this morning, and I saw a Boulder grey AWD that was being prepped -- the blue-grey interior that some have expressed concern about actually looked quite nice. Had it been a Copper AWD, I might have gone with it!

They put the ground lights in your car, and along with the space ship sound it's like one.
Congratulations. Wonderful color (same as mine)!
On a different thread, someone raised the question about “active sound control” on the E4orce vehicles. Your mission, once you obtain your AWD Ariya, is to determine if there is an active sound control feature, and what does it do? Good luck (cue mission impossible music).
the only active sound I have read about with the Platinum+ is when the car is in sport mode there is a very unappealing artificial sound. As much as I look forward to driving it in sport mode I don't look forward to the fake noise coming through the Bose system. I hope there is a way to disable it. I had a friend with a late model BMW M3 that had here dealer disable to fake noise but she had to pay to have it done.

AWD is the way to go with this car. I test drove a FWD and did not like it. I might look at a AWD in the future. Hope they come down in price.

Skip to marker 21:40. I actually love the Sport mode sound. Reminds me of the old movie, Tron.

Congratulations. That’s a huge step up! 🎉🎉🚀

I think you’re the first member on this forum to have owned the Platinum E4orce. I do think the Black Diamond and the Boulder Gray have a nice contrast with the blue gray interior.

What is it about fwd u disliked? I think it drives great! Smooth. Adequate power. I dunno what is not to like about it. 🤔

I have a RWD ID4. It has better torque, power and acceleration. Now with that said, I test drove the FWD Ariya for like 3 mins, so I didn't have a lot of time to play with it. I probably would still get the AWD.

The Ariya is heavy at 4500 lbs. It has plenty of torque and it’s quite fast. I use exclusively Standard driving mode and not in Sports mode. It can beat most factory stock muscle cars off the launch.

ID4 is also heavy. 4500-4700 lbs. That has nothing to do with this. Most EVs in this segment are in the same weight ballpark. A quick google search has the 2 cars about the same 0-60. FWD Ariya 0-60 is 7.5 secs. RWD ID4 is 7.3 The RWD in the ID4 is just feels different . You have to drive both to figure out what works for you. All I am saying is RWD is better for the size of these vehicles IMO.

Not to split hair but Nissan claims 7.2 secs. You should consider test driving the Ariya FWD for a good 10 minutes and let us know which vehicle has better ride quality, comfort, and the least rode noises. I am not sure why you think RWD is better if somehow the Ariya FWD drives better after a long 10 minutes of test driving.

Ariya FWD is not build for speed and performance. For that, yeah AWD is the way to go.

You might notice the ID 4 has bigger tires at the back. Ariya has a more practical design for general use, as Hank actually fit a full size spare tire in the cargo floor, I don't think ID4 can do that.

However, I think most reviews say the Ariya has a build up to acceleration, which appears intentional to be smoother rather than sudden.

I agree, it feels like the software doesn't give you all the torque right away to avoid that sudden thrust into the back of your seat. It helps give the Ariya are more comfortable ride for passengers. A smooth curve that doesn't feel like it is kicking in until 20-30mph. Good for families and tire wear, but less fun to drive.

Agree here too. It also keeps one from peeling out constantly... A good thing for me. I'd end up with stone chips galore!

Totally agree. The Ariya is tuned for a more comfort and smooth ride, 0-30 mph is slower but 30+ mph is faster, so driver and passengers can have a more comfortable ride, safer acceleration with less wheel spin/wear & tear.
The Ariya FWD has more HPs and torques than most other comparable 2WD EV's, and could have faster 0-60 if it were tuned that way - It doesn't win the 0-30 race but can beat most cars on the road on 0-45+ speed limit. A lot of people don't know this or just expect the sudden response from 0+ mph, may think other comparable EV's are better but actually worse for passengers' comfort and vehicle wear & tear. I drive my Ariya FWD in Sport mode and feel safe flooring the acceleration pedal at 0+ to beat most other cars to the speed limit in city traffic, but I wouldn't dare to try the same on other EV's because of wheel spin may cause an accident.
