My thought too
Perhaps trying to do too much at one plant is part of the problem. As the article states, "Nissan designed a system that would allow it to produce cars with different powertrains - batteries, hybrids and internal combustion engines - on the same line."

It seems that a line dedicated to a single platform would be more efficient. Obviously there were miscalculations on several fronts. Meanwhile, I'll see if my dealer's estimate for an April delivery of the Evolve+ FWD drive I ordered holds true.

I agree with your assessment, from my experience, the more you ask a design to do, the less efficient it will be.
Interesting article. I was called by Nissan earlier this week regarding my platinum +. I was offered a switch of exterior paint as the red we choose had delays and they likely won’t be ready beyond summer. We switched to the copper now and were told that production will be in 2 months

So production in May and delivery July?
I think it’s a blessing in disguise that production volume is less than planned. With this economy, last thing you want is to build to plan and then have inventory sitting there with markdowns. I think for those who have their Ariyas already, or those who will be getting theirs in the couple months, are in good hands. This will help keep MSRP stable and hopefully, dealers will not jack up their prices due to supply constraints. We get to drive a very unique SUV EV that is not for the masses just yet. Driving an Ariya will be as unique as driving a 2023 Porsche Taycan.

“Output over the next two months is expected to fall short of that, according to production planning notes from last month reviewed by Reuters. Output in March was forecast at under 6,900 vehicles and at around 5,200 in April and 5,400 in May, according to the planning notes. That has since been lowered, one of the people said”

I thought Nissan was making 6000 Ariyas for the US market? I don’t think ROW (rest of world)’ will outsell US demand.

Sure seems like it, so summer for everything but the red

Reading between the lines seems to suggest that Nissan has come apart at the seams after the Carlos Ghosn era.

That article really shakes my confidence in committing my hard-earned money to Nissan when so many other great EV choices now exist (3 years after the Ariya was supposed to hit the streets). Still waiting on my Platinum.

It also just further reinforces the opinion I've openly stated here regarding my excellent experience with the Leaf not at all supporting an argument that Nissan leveraged that 11 year EV head start into a superior second product with the Ariya - In fact this article seems to suggest everything is new with the Ariya and no mention is made of the kind of leveraged learnings you'd have expected from company that's been building cars for 70+ years.

Seems to me that indeed, Nissan is a new and different company from the one that made the groundbreaking Leaf - and I don't mean that in the complementary sense.

This will help keep MSRP stable...
Actually, I'm kinda hoping for the opposite. I'd love for Nissan to come to their senses and realize the Ariya missed the target window, and are forced to discount (substantially) from the existing MSRP. I still am interested in my Platinum, but I get less interested every day.

Truthfully, the only reason I haven't cancelled is because I trust the delay for AWD shipment will be so further extended as to provide a fair chance for this discount scenario to play out.

That and other EVs will start be available by summer and fall. If one of those shows up first, I may pass on the Ariya. I started my new car journey 2 years ago. I regret not just buying something then. I was almost ready to until I stumbled upon the Ariya and figured I can wait a little while. A little while keeps getting longer and more expensive.

I’m not a fan of the Ioniq 5, or the Tesla. What has the ride and build quality at $55 -60k? I haven’t found anything that fits the bill as well as the Ariya (yet).

I have the same issue. I wish Volvo didn't have such a pathetic range. My running assumption on any advertised range is that real world is probably 50 miles less. I'm curious to see how the Blazer EV pans out.

Most likely April / May for everything except the red color is what the dude told me..but then again I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being may. He said there are paint issues at the factory

What could Carlos Ghosn have done differently when the supply chain disruption caused massive production lines stoppage across the entire sector? Is he a Superman with a wand where he can wave his wand and tell his suppliers to bring deliveries on time every time while reducing cost of materials?

Nissan took a big gamble on their "Intelligent Factory" which the article mentions as being a big factor in the delays. Seriously, check out the video below of them manufacturing the Ariyas. It looks insanely complex. Not sure if their decision to go full in on that factory was a pre or post Ghosn firing decision.

That's true. Also everything else, all the other pieces leading up to the intelligent factory have to be running smoothly... no parts, no production.
Very true. This line is probably the most depressing.

The price of EVs is being reduced because of the Chinese companies in the business and the falling prices for the elements that go into producing batteries. Here, the Electric Viking looks at the market and gives the reasons for falling prices.
