Extended warranty?

I'm preparing for the upcoming delivery of my Platinum+ AWD later this month (hopefully). I know that EV's have the potential for significantly lower maintenance costs than ICE vehicles, but I also know that newly introduced vehicles tend to have some maintenance "surprises" down the road. For those of you that have already received your vehicles, did the dealer offer any form of optional extended warranty? I'd love to hear about what was offered:
  • Nissan vs 3rd party offering
  • Terms of the offer
  • Price and your ability to negotiate on pricing
  • Portability across all Nissan dealerships vs at one dealer
  • anything else
I've never bought an extended warranty before, so I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I was offered the official Nissan Security+, which is apparently the only one offered on the car since it's so new. That might depend on what the dealer wants to sell. The top one is Gold plan with $100 deductible. There are different months and miles you can choose, with 8 years and 120k miles being the longest.

Click vehicle service contracts.

As far as I can tell, you can order it from any Nissan dealer within the existing warranty period, however the lower the miles the better as there seems to be some kind of fee if you get it after 10-12k miles.
I was offered and purchased a Platinum warranty plan that goes to 100K miles or 10 years. It has a $100 deductible. I have had Nissan cars in the past and purchased the gold package. I like the ease of going through Nissan dealerships and having it taken care of vs a 3rd party. I purchased this warranty primarily because it’s a new model and has a lot of electronics. I feel that because it’s an EV I would be taking it to the dealership for service.

I don’t know much about extended warranty but I would consider waiting for a year or two to decide then if you want extended warranty. Get to know your car first before taking the plunge with the extended warranty. Also, you can shop around from dealer to dealer to see who offers best pricing for Nissan’s Gold Warranty.

Last thought , since you have not picked up your Platinum yet, decide now if you want your dealer to mount the front license bracket..

What color is your Ariya?

The dealer we purchased from presented us with a third party 10 year warranty for $7K. That policy was pretty generic and included towing and glass coverage (both are covered by my insurance) and had to laugh when the fine print even included potential savings at each oil change. IMO to spend that amount of money on an extended warranty that in this case only covers 7 years of warranty (after Nissan standard warranty has expired) is pretty convoluted and really just another profit opportunity for dealerships. $1000./year for extended warranty? No thanks!
My wife and I have owned our 2011 Leaf since new and have literally spent less than $1200.00 in the last 12 years for a set of tires (which would not be covered by an extended warranty) and two electric cooling pumps (which probably would have been covered) in the last 12 years. So in summary if we had been offered a 10 year extended warranty for $1000.00 I might have at least entertained it.

Check that- forgot about the 12 volt battery I replaced about 3 years ago setting us back about $140.00. But again the battery is a routine maintenance replacement part that would typically be excluded by any extended warranty policy.
