Good fast charging in warm weather

We have had our Ariya for about 5,000 miles so far and have taken it on a few trips, and have generally felt that it's main weak point compared with our previous ID.4 was DC fast charging. It hasn't been terrible, and the charging curve is quite good at high state of charge, but the peak speeds have been at most 100kW. Yesterday I stopped at an EvGo charger to set up Autocharge, and was surprised when the car pulled 125kW from the start, even though I was already at 30%. It maintained >120kW until I unplugged at 60%, just over 12 minutes later. That was much better than I would have gotten with the ID.4! It's in the low 80s here, and I did remember to turn on battery preconditioning (and always have the enhanced battery cooling turned on), so the conditions were probably optimal.

Same experience here. On my recent trip to Rochester, I got 128kW at an EA station, up to 50% and stayed above 100kW all the way to 80%. Much better than the 90-100kW I got when it was colder.

I just did a Mother’s Day adventure. When I got to the quick charger coming home I was at 30% and preconditioned for about 30 minutes before arrival. Plugged it in and bam. 124 kw right off the bat. I will say this though. I was going to go to the 150kw charger I usually go to but decided to try the 350 (being that it was an EVgo and I didn’t have to pay for it). At my last charge the 150 says up to 150 but then I looked at the EVgo app, it said it maxes out at 100. Thought that was a little trash. I don’t know why they say it’s a pick a number charger and then cap it out much lower than that.

The Ariya can only do in the 120's so I stick to the 150KW chargers. I found the 350KW chargers are really flaky and a lot are detrated anyways, besides really isn't good etiquette to hook up to a charger your car can't really take advantage of.

I know all about the etiquette. I struggled with that. Then I started thinking. The other charger says 150 but but it’s de-rated to 100. This 350 isn’t derated at all. I can’t take 350 but I can take more than 100 and I want to get home. Since there was no one there, I went for it.

While I really don't need public fast chargers it's nice to know they are available. After getting my Ariya last week I took a closer look at the EVGo maps and some others around NH and MA. Sadly it seems that the majority around here are just level 2 charges which are really pretty pointless unless you're at a hotel. The one EVGO charger near me at a Whole Foods has been down for over a month.
