30 ampsHow many amps at level 2 does the included charger support?
at 30 amps, should be plugged into a 40amp circuit. Is the included charger configureable to draw less if plugged into a 30 to 20 amp circuit?30 amps
Yes, it should be plugged into a 40 amp circuit, and no, unfortunately it's not configurable.at 30 amps, should be plugged into a 40amp circuit. Is the included charger configureable to draw less if plugged into a 30 to 20 amp circuit?
That’s why I got the Wallbox unit, I can configure to draw less amps. I just need enough power to recharge about 80 miles overnight in most cases.Yes, it should be plugged into a 40 amp circuit, and no, unfortunately it's not configurable.
12 amps - you can run it on a 15 amp circuit.Oh, and for completeness, how many amps does it draw level 1?
I've not seen a 16 amp 120V charger (16 amp, not 18 amp, to stay within 80% of rated capacity) but there might be one out there somewhere. The difference between 12 amp and 16 amp would be very small, so not really worth it for most people.I just looked at the sticker on the charger and it says 12 A at 110V, 30 A at 240V. Duh!!!
Just curious, does anyone make an 18 amp or so level 1 charger for 20 A circuits?
I'm not an expert on plugs, but, looking at pictures, it looks like a NEMA 14-50 plug for the Level 2 charging. Right?
Turns out that 16A L1 chargers are not uncommon. I found some at Amazon. The ones I found would also do L2 at 16 amps. So, it would be about half speed of the Nissan charger at L2. And they are more convenient for just keeping in the car as an emergency use since it has smaller gauge wires compared to the Nissan unit. So, I think I will get one and store it in the car for emergency use.I've not seen a 16 amp 120V charger (16 amp, not 18 amp, to stay within 80% of rated capacity) but there might be one out there somewhere. As I said, it ALSO does L2 at 16 amps. So in that mode, about 1/2 the speed of the Nissan. L1 at 16 amps would be more like 1/4, as you said. The unit I purchased is also switchable to 13 amps or 10 amps. So, it supports a pretty wide variety of options. It includes 20 amp and 15 amp 120 v plugs. Not sure what kind of 240v plugs it includes.Rock:
16a 5-20R adapter kept as emergency part? Good idea. I have almost every adapter possible in the car and a spare charger. Keep in mind your plan is only for 20 amp wired branch circuits with nothing else in use at the time, and requires a 20 amp rated outlet. Not at all commonly installed, but very available for purchase. Might want to search on NEMA 5-20R
BTW, no not half the speed. Maybe 1/4th. Amps x Volts, right? So 120V times 16a is 1.920KW/H. @ 240V that would be 3,849KW/H. 240V X 30 amps = 7200KW/h. You'll have considerable loss due to time the 120V, so you'll be lucky to reach 1/4"
