Wow! That was a thorough but compact review! Don't really understand the brake pedal movement issue....need a test drive.. Surprised about the back seat room...I am six feet and sat in one and it was fine. He's a big lad! Hopefully voice recognition lu be disabled once! Would also be nice to turn the cheesy sport mode noise off! Luv his honest reviews.

I'm 6' 2" and like built like a defensive lineman & I have a tough time sitting behind me in my Premier. The voice thing was just a matter of him not understanding how to operate the car. A quick hit of the cancel button or just saying "cancel" would have killed that (but it CAN be disabled). The sports mode noise is annoying but I rarely stay in sports mode. Passing people on the highways or quick peels from a light to get in front of someone & then back to normal mode I go. I imagine it'll be the same when I take delivery of my Platinum+ (I'm a little eager). The brake pedal is a problem, though. You grow accustomed to it but I haven't gotten "used" to it. I don't necessarily forsee it being a hazard though (but I guess people rarely do foresee hazardous things as hazards or else they'd fix them).

The brake pedal wouldn’t be an issue if it was full 1 pedal. Then you would never need to step on the brake. It’s the main reason I don’t use e-step (I would probably use it more if I didn’t have to step on the brake in that mode and get freaked out how the pedal is not in the correct spot)

The voice recognition isn't really (or very rarely) an issue. Given that he's making videos and chattering a lot about the car, he's likely saying "Nissan" a lot more often than one would during the course of normal conversation and so triggering it a lot more.

Thanks for the alert to the video. I watch Out Of Spec but didn't see this until now.

He's fair in his review, and really it comes down to price. I agree that it's just too expensive for what it is.

I don't think I'm going to carry this any further. I'll be cancelling my Platinum+ reservation and requesting the $500 refund.

In the meantime I'll keep driving the Leaf, and wait for something better. The Ariya just ain't it.

I agree that it's too expensive at the current MSRP but if you've got it reserved then you'll be paying less PLUS you'll be eligible for the tax break. I don't think there's a vehicle that can match this one in the low 50s. I've been driving a premier for 6 weeks & it's a brilliant vehicle. I can't wait for my platinum to arrive.

Nice video. I am going forward with my platnium + only because I have a preorder, I get the original price and I get the 76500. As a single person I make too much to get the 7500 on any other car even if I wanted any other car, I don’t.
I love my leaf and I will miss one pedal driving.

I think one pedal could be added via an update. Congrats on not qualifying for the single rate for the IRA! 😂😂

Ioniq 5 Limited AWD or GV60 Advanced with $7500 lease incentive is in the low 50s and very comparable.

The whole 2022 tax break is moot for me because I used up my 2022 tax liability and IRA income limits prevent me from claiming tax credits in 2023 (hence zero interest in another Tesla or Mach-E lol). Doesn't matter because Nissan isn't building the Ariya in the US

Nissan needs to incentivize their leases like Genesis/Hyundai/BMW/Volvo/Jeep/Polestar/Mercedes/Lucid/VW/Subaru etc to make the Ariya price competitive.

Kyle's review accentuated the negatives that were in the back of my head. It was actually Alyssa's comments about feeling the microbumps from the rear. I can't unhear it. And her comments about the E-tron being a bank vault are spot on and the Ariya not even close to that silent. Sub-luxury EVs aren't that quiet... there are plenty of ICE luxury cars much quieter.

Don't care about 1PD because I'm so used to EVs with and without it.

Everybody has their top priorities. I've driven the MYLR, & Ioniq 5 Limited pretty extensively and I think it's quieter than both of those vehicles. Both the Ioniq 5 & Ariya are far more comfortable to ride/drive than the MY. I personally like the interior of the Ariya when compared to the Ioniq 5. The Model 3/Y barely have interiors (but the software is amazing & having dual wireless charging kicks ass). There are quite a few amenities that Ariya has that makes it a better choice for me than the Ioniq 5:

  • More clear HUD (can be used with polarized sunglasses)
  • Rain Sensing Wipers
  • Power steering wheel
  • Ride height
  • Ground clearance
  • Rear wiper
  • Digital Mirror availability
  • Opening moonroof
  • Alexa integration (don't laugh. I really use it!)
There's more storage in both of those other vehicles than the Ariya but that doesn't move the needle as I'm not using that much storage often. The ride feel in the backseat & the backseat quality is interesting but usually, there are only going to be two passengers in my vehicle so that doesn't bother me that much either. But YMMV.

The appeal of the Ariya to me is also the list of top-end features like HUD, hands free driving, digital rear view mirror, premium audio + interior. But I've test driven three trims and some of the premium features don't seem that useful (digital rear view mirror) and the interior + audio aren't premium to me. For $60K.. you can buy a true premium vehicle like the ICE GV70.

I don't consider the Ioniq 5 Limited AWD that quiet at all. Notice I never said anything like that. My (former) BMW i4 was far quieter, had a better suspension, better interior, better audio, and handled like sports sedan instead of a chunky crossover. I kept my i4 around for 2 weeks after leasing my Ioniq 5 to compare. Most non-luxury EVs simply aren't that quiet. The Ioniq 5 is just another EV appliance to me. It's nice and checks the boxes but the suspension, audio, and quietness are subpar compared to the i4 and iX. Fake luxury is the best term to describe the Ioniq 5. The Ariya has more features for sure in the Platinum+ trim (my order) like the digital rearview mirror, moonroof, hands free PRO Pilot. I was underwhelmed by the suspension and audio in my test drives... if it was $45K... that would be acceptable but at $58K (reservationist price)... nope.

My issues with the MYLR are numerous. I've owned many of them and not interested in buying another until they have a 360 camera, blind spot monitors, and better rear visibility.

The lack of rear wiper is my biggest annoyance of the Ioniq 5 - along with the poor 1PD implementation which is why I drive in regen 3. Everybody should copy Polestar 2's 1PD. It's just buttery smooth from start to stop.

Kyle released a new 70 mph highway range test with the Ariya.

A little disappointing efficiency. That's ID.4 bad. With a bigger battery it traveled a bit further than the ID.4 and of course it wasn't a summer range test.

That's about what I get at 75 mph in my FWD at 30-40 degrees, so seems believable. I get 3.2(ish) in the afternoon once it's warmed up to 50 degrees. I'm very curious what I'll get this summer.

EPA rated range is 267 so I think 240 miles, in not hot weather, at 70 MPH is not too bad to me.

You're going to trade in for a Platinum+? Wow! Wish I could give you my preorder :p.

As for an alternative choice in the low 50's, Kyle mentioned in the video (which I am now re-considering) is a Model Y Performance. It qualified for the $7500, is stupid fast from the launch, has a selectable rear/font bias driftmode and trackmode, comparatively has about 2x the DC fastcharge rate (and the Supercharger network), all while turning in 3.6 m/khw in Kyle's 70 MPH range test under the same cold weather conditions in which the Ariya AWD delivered 2.9.

That 70mph range test result is really just reinforcing what I had already concluded - the Ariya isn't for me anywhere near it's current price. I'd be buyer (of a Platinum+) at $40k - $7500.

I'm sad for Nissan. These were my guys, since the '80's

I'm wondering if any Ariya owner is going to go to the track. I say that because Tesla track mode is for closed course only, not for public roads. That is what the manual says, and Tesla probably has access to know when that mode is used.

Thanks for your offer of the preorder, I've got my own! ;) I've got a Murano & fell in love with the amenities for the price point. Conversely, the Ariya at the current MSRP is decidedly NOT a value but I do think it is right in line with others in the segment at the $52-53K price point it will fall to with the tax credit. For my dollars (which these are) it's definitely the one I'd choose. I'm not a fan of the MY and like the amenities over the MachE/EGMPs/ID.4. This rollout has been beyond disappointing and inexcusably delayed but I'm still on board.

I found a sticker for the 20 inch wheels. It says 257 miles. It is 267 for the 19 inch.
