New Ariya Owner, please help

RING has just launched a new security dash cam. It’s a DIY system but requires OBD-II port. Can anyone advise if the Ariya has this port? It’s currently on sale until Feb in Amazon. I would like to install this for my new Ariya. Thanks for your help!

I believe the OBD ports are only found on ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. Ring stated somewhere in their product description the camera was not compatible with full electric vehicles.🙁
Bummer 😢
The dealer installed dash cam costs more and ugly.
It does indeed have an OBD port, uses the standard OBD socket. It’s also located within 300mm of the steering column as per the required standard.

Most if not all EVs have OBD2 ports. Even Teslas have them.

Partial list of incapable cars with or without a port per Ring. Ring doesn’t even list the Nissan Ariya model yet so maybe / maybe not? Surprising how many ICE cars with ports are still not compatible!😳

It will depend on what the Ring camera uses the port for, if it’s for power, for example, it may require a permanent 12v supply and a switched supply, some vehicles may not keep the 12v supply active when the vehicle is sleeping.

The Ariya does have a DOP connector (Dealer Option Connector) under the dash on both sides, which provides a number of signals that are usually needed for accessories.

Part no is T99F6 4RA0A if you Google it you should find out which signals it provides. An auto electrician may be able to adapt the Ring connections to use the required signals. This is assuming that the OBD connector is just being used for convenience, rather than actually accessing the Ariya CAN bus.

The Ring Dash Cam looks too intrusive and exposed because it’s placed on the dashboard.

I recommend Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2. Its so tiny that It can be hidden behind the rear view mirror.

Last month, I bought a Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 while it was on sale on Garmin website in preparation of getting my Ariya.

I also bought a GOPRO Hero 11 Mini. I will be using it as a dash cam as well for my travel adventure. The nice thing about the Hero 11 Mini is that it does not have a LCD screen on the camera.

I bought the OBDII cable on Amazon. Search: #B089SQSPDH. It’s much cheaper than buying the ODII cable directly from Garmin.

I have everything ready: Weathertech floor mats from Costco, and my Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2. Now I just need to wait patiently for my Ariya. 🥱

Thank you for the dashcam info! I was hoping to find an unobtrusive one
I know a number of the third party cameras plug into the cigarette lighter. Does anyone know if the Ariya has one?
Yes it does have a 12v power socket, cigarette style.

I was playing around with Nissan's build to order for Ariya. They have a lot of accessories available for dealer add ons. Unfortunately, there is no trailer hitch. There are a few Yakima accessories available for deal install. See photo below.

Check out this dash cam by Nissan. See photo below. Looks decent....? The way it is installed tells me there is a power plug underneath the ceiling panel....

I thought there was a tow hitch, but maybe they only make it "available" for AWD builds (perhaps FWD not officially rated for towing?), probably not a big deal if you just want to have a hitch mounted bicycle rack, and wouldn't need wiring harness either. Dash cams are a good idea nowadays. It would be nice to have one that can attach to the back side of the rear view mirror or something so no suction cup on the glass. Maybe one that looks out the back, too.
No power plug under the headliner, I have installed a dash cam (BlackVue) and ran the cable into the headlining then down the A pillar, as this is where other cables run, it also avoids the airbag, picking up power from the Dealer Option Connector under tte dash.

I had planned on running my ODBII cable (up into the ceiling headliner and down the A pillar, then into the OBDII port)

Does Ariya have power at the rear view mirror? This would be a convenient way to power the dash cam:

The Garmin Dash Camm Mini is my preffered choice. Small and invisible.

Under the forward vision system cover is the camera and a connector to the front windshield defog system and a connector for the airbag lights. If you remove that and then split the cover for the intelligent mirror you can gain access to the power for that. Although I didn’t do that it is a possibility. I had to run a cable to the rear for a rear camera so I had to go down the A pillar anyway.

Hello! Check out parts.nissanusa.com for a tow hitch… at the moment, we only know that the AWD (e-4ORCE) trims can tow anything decent and the frame might even be different as the FWD models don’t need to support a second motor… so unfortunately comparability isn’t guaranteed… we’re getting an ENGAGE little battery 63kWh this weekend and we’re bummed about this as we just got into mountain bikes and such…

Welcome to the Ariya forum. A newbie. Cool! You will enjoy your new Engage very much! (Guarantee)

It should not difficult for aftermarket suppliers to produce a hitch receiver for the Ariya. It's a matter of when...

I too have a Yakima holdup bike rack for my mtn bikes. Fortunately, I have my Volvo SUV if I need to carry my bikes around.
