With the Ariya's world premiere tonight, it's crazy to think how far along EVs have come over the past decade since Nissan unveiled the Leaf in 2010.
Global EV sales reached 2.1 million, in 2019 (2.6 percent of all vehicle sales), which is a 40 percent increase compared to 2018. There are now 7.2 million electric vehicles on roads around the world.
With Nissan and other companies getting more invested in EVs, experts forecast EV sales to surpass 50 percent of all passenger vehicle sales by 2040.
