I have Evolve+ 16,500 miles . I average 260-270 miles in good weather. Mine is low from 95% city driving as expected. Cold weather could be the read from other areas on site. Good Luck EDH

 

I am in San Diego California with almost perfect weather and I see the same issue on the ionic 5. Sorry to say but they promised you 300+ miles but as you can see, it does not complete that range. Only when you first bought the EV It came close to the Advertised Range. It's time for the courts. Good luck!

 

I have had an Evolve+ AWD for about a month as well. I literally just finished charging mine to 100% on a Chargepoint L2 and it's showing 237 miles of range, so about 87% of the advertised figure.

Now I only have about 850 miles on this car, a mix of in-town and relatively short (<60 miles) highway trips, and I'm in CT so it's been cold (though not as cold as you have it in VT), so I know that my range estimates are definitely against a small sample size.

I'm interested to see how the car does once it starts to warm up, and I'm about to take it on a longer (150 mile each way) trip as well, so curious to see accurate well that 237 figure ends up being.

 

I live in Northern California in the San Francisco Bay area. I charge my car up to 100% and I drove to Cloverdale from Walnut Creek, which is 104 miles each way. I went there and back and when I got home I had 22% battery left

 

Are you tracking your miles per kWh? Keeping your speed "low" enough on the highway? Is the car parked outside or inside at night when it's cold?

 

My car is always parked outside, driven only a couple days of week, and often for very short trips, so not the best situation for efficiency.

I drive in D, standard mode with e-step enabled. Because I charge for free (EVGo or Chargepoint L2 at work), I've found I'm less focused on the range and efficiency. I'm definitely not prioritizing driving "slow" on the highway to maximize range, I'm still in the prioritizing "fun" stage of driving my Ariya.

TLDR; I'm not surprised I'm not getting 272 in my circumstances, but am glad to see that Folsom seems to be doing so in their long-range test.

 

I have the Evolve+FWD and coming up on the end of EVgo charging with about 14,000. With warm days we get about 260-275 miles of range. Cold days in the 40s is about 230. I drive in ECO, e-step enabled and B mode (for the hills).

I recall my FWD was rated 289 and AWD was 257. We had to park our Prius in the garage due to catalytic thief's in CA. The Ariya losing 10-15 miles of ranging sitting on the street. The Tesla loses about 1-3 miles sitting on the street overnight.

All cars, ICE and EVs, do not hit their advertised range. My 1999 Toyota Sienna never ever hit its 17 mpg as well as our Tesla M3 where we get 180 instead of 254. Tesla recently had to lower the range on most of their vehicles due to pressure from consumer groups and government.

@DuckyMomo, wanted to also thank you for the many posts from you. I enjoy them as I learn from them or get a chancce to look at a situation from another view.

 

A couple observations relative to having owned LEAFs. The mileage “guess-o-meter” in Ariya is much more realistic vs LEAF, especially when the outside temperatures drops. Ariya consumes marginally more energy as would expect with a larger & heavier vehicles. It would be interesting to have a tool like LeafSpy to see how the BMS is maintaining battery temps. Hunch is Ariya is consuming power to maintain efficient battery temps which will cut into range.

 

I think there has been a DISASTROUS mistake made in how the information is presented. There is a practically endless stream of new EV owners (not just on Ariya) who are relating to their Guess-o-Meter as if it were the actual performance and range of their cars.

It's possible it may be accurate in your case, but the miles shown are not any kind of material fact. It appears to be a simple multiplication of the kWh above 0% on your current charge (so, 87 at 100% on a new large-battery Ariya), times the recent rating of mi / kWh.

And, in my experience with my Ariya and our family's driving, that efficiency rating, is not really the mi / kWh that we're actually getting when we drive the car. It's lower. For our typical highway driving at 70-80 mph with some hills and two heavy-ish passengers, it's about 15% lower than what we actually get. (i.e. it reads 2.7, but we get 3.1 on such trips, and we get over 4 in a lot of our in-town driving)

Our actual range with our driving this fall, seems to be about 270 miles. And we are NOT trying to be efficient - we run the AC, zoom when we want to, etc. We do use e-Step (on Standard).

I don't know why the mi / kWh is lower than we seem to get on trips. Nor do I know why yours is even lower than that. I also don't know what you're actually getting, but I suggest you take the actual miles of the trip, and divide it by the actual kWh used on a specific longer trip, to see what mi / kWh you are really getting, and multiply that by 87 to get your range when driving like that.

 

According to the MyNissan App, in February so far, 640 miles driven at an average of 2.84mi/kWh.

If I ran the battery to 0, that would be 247 miles on a 272 estimated range. So 90% of range. Not bad for February in CT.

Really glad I held out for the 87 kWh battery, I almost bit on an Engage first.

 

About one month ago I leased a 2023 Ariya EVOLVE+ AWD E-4orce with an 87 kWh battery. The advertised estimated EPA range is 272 miles, which is why i decided to spend more on this car than I would have spent on another Leaf. The first time I charged it to 100%, the dashboard display indicated a 300 mile range (at around 35 degrees F). The next five or so times the range at 100% battery charge was around 208 miles (also at around 35 degrees F).

Based on the miles driven, the 208 range on the display was an accurate representation of the actual range with a full charge. In other words, it was NOT a case of the display showing 208 miles at full charge, but the "actual" range being closer to the advertised 272 miles. Interestingly, most recently the range was only 200 miles (at 50 degrees F).

I had it checked out (twice) by the dealer, and since they're not seeing any problematic diagnostic codes, their position is that there's no problem and the car is performing as designed. Based on the fact that I've leased four Leafs over the past 12 years, and driven over 120,000 miles, this substantially lower than estimated EPA range is definitely NOT normal, and IS a problem. So, I'm wondering if any other Ariya owners are having a similar experience?

You haven’t told us what state you live in and what was the weather temperature last month. Yes, there are many factors that impact range especially temperature

 

For highway driving ( ave. 75 mph) I plan for 2 miles per percent of battery ( 87kWh battery). Judging by many posts, as mentioned by @Molybdenum, people seem overly reliant on the GOM. Double the SoC and that's how far you can drive on the highway, simple. Note- Do not use this approach with the smaller battery.

 

Of course people rely on the GOM, in the same way people driving ICE cars rely on the distance to empty GOM that comes with those cars.

In an Ariya, if you’re taking a road trip, especially if you’re relying on the god awful EVgo network to charge, being able to estimate where, and for how long, you will be charging is essential.

I just had the car out for a bit and now I’m at 90% and 217, so my range is up to 241. That’s encouraging.

My target EVgo tomorrow is 132 miles away, so if your rule of thumb works that should get me there at about 25% battery.

Should be a fun experiment!

 

ABRP estimates 2.81mi/kWh and arriving at the EVgo at 34% SoC.

One thing about ABRP though, it shows the Ariya having a 90kWh battery instead of 87. Am I doing something wrong?

 

Many on this forum have posted positive experiences with ABRP. Rivian bought ABRP recently but hope it doesn't change its product for worse. I was a Waze user until they were bought by Goggle.

The Ariya battery for the Evolve is a 91 kWh but Nissan is keeping 3 kWh for their use. So it 87 kWh usable. We got down to 23 miles range left and got the persistent message to charge 😅

It actually has a 91kWh battery. 87kWh usable. I have also found that the reference consumption @ 65 mph for the Ariya to be optimistic in ABRP. It can be adjusted. The highway mpge for the Platinum is 87. That equates to (87/33.7) 2.58 miles/kWh. I believe the default in ABRP is over 3.2 miles/kWh.

 

87 kWh is the 0 to 100% part. You can use the other 4 kWh, but the car will show 0%, and as you really start to run low, it starts giving you less maximum power. It's also not great to do very much, since it strains the battery a bit.

(2 miles per % seems to me a conservative range estimate, unless you're in the mountains and/or racing around in Sport mode.)

Got to my EVgo with 35% battery and GOM of 86 miles. I did turn on the battery heater at about 25 mins out.

that’s about 245 miles of range.

For this trip (131.5mi) the app shows 42.1 kWh consumed with an energy economy of 3.13mi/kWh

edit: Charged up to 98% and GOM has me at 255 miles, so that’s 260 range. Yesterday at 100% my GOM was 237.

I charge at home the last 2 readings I have from actual miles larger battery Evolve+ equals 230 miles. My last 2 actual miles average 23 miles per 10% charge. People looking at miles should write down actual miles for true reading dont use guess o meter.Looking at PGE current $.43 kw (calif)I am now considering offloading and getting Toyota Rav 4 hybrid plug in. In California it is actually cheaper at 35mpg to buy gas than charging My home cost figures are without solar. Also in Calif with PGE you are alloted 450kw a month in Winter 300kw in summer If anyone is driving alot it is EASY to exceed that allotment then price jumps to $.54kwI am also disappointed in more people having issues with Ariya possible 12V battery. This is the first car I have ever had where I need to keep notes or worry about issues.I am 67 and do not need to worry about possible issues ESPECIALLY if I was to drive out of town.All other States are probaly not affected by these cost and EV still cheaper than gas at 35mpg. I feel ARIYA value is going nowhere but down. EDH

 

The app usually shows better consumption figures for me. My methodology was during cruise, note the odometer reading, drive off 10% of the battery, note the odometer again. That’s how I arrived at 2 miles for each %. The app for that trip showed 2.81 mi/kWh which works out to about 2.4 mi for each %. Temperature was in the upper 40s and tires were about 39 psi.

 

I usually get about 3.1 mi / kWh, so 2.7 miles per 1% charge on the highway. e-Step Standard, Evolve+ FWD, probably 50-60F.

 

My Premier gets around 3.1 mi/kWh driving 70 with HVAC on. My 2019 Bolt gets between 4.0 and 4.5 with same driving. I've checked both estimates by recording the miles and SOC on many trips. The Bolt isn't that much lighter or aerodynamic, so is the Bolt motor that much more efficient?

 

Weight difference seems like around 1000 lbs. Also, Ariya is pretty tall with high ground clearance, some images with it next to an Ioniq5 and the Ioniq looks short.

 

First really nice day here in the northeast (about 75F) since I bought the Ariya. I started a 135 mile ride with the GOM at 228 miles (89%) and ended it with the GOM at 141 miles (45%) ... didn't even use cruise control and I turned off A/C.

Doing the math, my range at 100% right now would be 313 miles, and would have been better, but I puttered around the neighborhood to get a snack at McDonalds before I came home.

Advertised range for the EVOLVE+ AWD is 272 miles, so 313 is an encouraging March development.

 

I hope you continuously get 300+miles throughout the spring/summer time. I typically drive with my moonroof opened (or tilted). When it gets a little warm, I crack the passenger side window a tad to let the air flow through the cabin. The lack of aerodynamic hasn't affected my range either as i usually get 330+ miles driving in city speed.

 

That's odd, all Ariyas have the 360deg camera system. What happens when you push the
"camera" button on the dash? If that doesn't work, maybe you have a defective system.

Also, I use the Auto+park button on the console to see the garage junk. Obviously, I don't try to use it to park in my garage, just find the cameras helpful.

Venture+ trim does not come with aerial 360 cam. It seems wrong for Nissan not to have it on all trims.

 

Venture+ makes sense as the FWD with the best range in the line. It's a great buy for a lot of people, though considering it's not the cheapest Ariya, I agree it could use some better features from a marketability perspective

The biggest confusion in the trim, for me, is the Empower+, which just should been the Platinum+ FWD. The Premiere muddies the waters too, but that will go away as the remaining 2023s are sold off.

I also find the fact that only the Engage trim has a non-plus version a little confusing.

Even just renaming the Empower+ as the Platinum+ FWD would significantly simplify the line up...

Evolve+ FWD/AWD
Platinum+ FWD/AWD

 

There are a lot of other features in the Platinum+(US) than the FWD models, so it couldn't be as simple as that. It would have been nice to have some of those features on FWD models.

 

Hey HANK!😃 I just did a recharge at our EVgo charging station and look at my GOM today! 371!!!! I'm sooooo happy with my Premiere and at this point have not been disappointed with its performance. Yeah, I could be picky about small, irrelevant, issues but why? I'm riding happy and worry free😁.

 

Did it take you a full hour to reach 100%? From what % did you start out with? Wow, you are NOW the KING OF EVGO!! 👑

My most recent home charging got me 315 miles at 95% charge. Was hoping it would be closer to 330 miles of range. But hey, no more loitering around EVGO stations!

 

In the case of most vehicles, upsizing the wheel could reduce range, but only by a few miles. That's the only change in these cars. There's no change in final drive ratio that could cause the motor to spin faster and use more juice at speed.

 

Not a fan of HUD. Have it on a Prius.

Had Ariel parkjbg view on my Leaf prior. Not missing it. Wouldn't turn it down, but I learn3d how to park a Kong time ago. Lol.

I thought it would miss heated seats and steering wheel but with the Ariya's cloth seats, not really missing that either.

I only really want for pro pilot 2.0. 1.0 is too sensitive and requires too much wheel maintenance.

I'm opposite of you in terms of miles at about 75% hwy. I'm expecting 3.8 - 4.0 m/kWh this Spring through Fall with highway based on my current numbers. I never had more that 4.0 avg with my Leaf and don't really expect that with this car. 3.8 would be realistic.

If your Engage+ can also do that then something isn't adding up with how Nissan calculated their range estimates. More powerful motor with same battery pack with equal range yet more total weight? The physics there don't make sense.

Now if Maryland didn't have a 50k msrp cap for their EV tax credit, I likely would have opted for an AWD trim to get the AWD.

When I park in my garage or at a public parking space, I always reverse into the parking space. In the Ariya, looking over my shoulder towards the back hatch window can be difficult to park due to view obstruction. Having aerial 360 cam is extremely useful. This one key feature (in addition to HUD) is not offered in Tesla models

This is why I believe the aerial 360 view cam should be a standard feature on all trims. Unfortunately, Venture does not have this standard feature.

If range was my #1 concern on the Ariya, i would have sold my 19" wheels and put 18" on my Evolve+. However, range is not a concern for me since I'm already getting 310+++ miles on it. Those other features that I mentioned previously are far more important to me than a bare bone Venture+. The more safety features I can get, the better.

 

I'm in VT.. mild winter.. record low in 140 yrs. My Aryia get 159 miles at 100%.. I can't even get to Albany and back 45 miles each way. Then I have to charge which takes 10 to 15 hrs on my home charger that the salesman came to my house and brought me an extension cord from my outside 110 charger and hooked the extension cord up to.. what do ya all think about this. I'm 😡 .. bc I can't get the FREE ($760) charger plus installation of $400.. bc I rent.. you have to own to get this charger.. we have one fast speed charger in town.. most times is either in operstion.. or it's not working correctly and out of service.. dealership days I should have thought about this! No ya should have told me!
Ps I dislike the car.. for a single one car person it's just not for me.. and I'm upside down on it $14,000.. and computer illiterate. In fact I don't even own a computer! My fault they told me.. Unless you're willing to take a loss, it's best at this point to learn to live with it. It sounds like you have a car with the smaller battery (Engage trim maybe). One good thing: The range will improve as it warms up out. The range drops a fair bit below about 40 degrees, and worse below freezing.

 

Sorry to hear this @Senga Thomson - it does feel like the dealership could and should have done more to help you evaluate whether the Ariya was the right choice in your circumstances.

You should also reach out to Nissan and let them know how poorly the dealership has treated you. Nissan penalizes dealerships who mistreat their customers, and that is a powerful check on bad dealer behavior

The best dealers will at least consider the value of forming a long-term relationship with a customer, and that will guide their behavior. Sometimes they’ll just treat you as a transaction and don’t care if they ever see you again.

Greed is a powerful motivator.

I just saw this. We have a empowered plus that has a range of 287. We was always getting either 323 or 333. After a software update it instantly dropped to 222. They said there was nothing wrong with it. I called Nissan and complained and still got the same answer. Fast forward several months later the car is now up to 280.

 

Yes, the Guess-O-Meter can be all over the place. I like to go by actual miles traveled along with percent of battery consumed, and my range is maybe 255 in the dead of winter, 290 in the summer.

 

I only charge my FWD Venture+ to 90%. During the warmer months it gets me to 300+ miles on the GOM. During the winter it dropped to around 275. I pay attention to the miles per Kwh. Again during warm weather I can keep it well above 4. During the winter it was in the low 3's. I park in an unheated garage that never gets below 40 F and in the cold weather I always precondition for 15 minutes in the morning. Also have the heater set to 65 degrees. I do very little highway driving.
