Passion Red Tricoat Platinum+ delayed until summer (at least)

Received a random call from James @ Nissan (800 453 4440) asking if I would want to change my Platinum+ color to something other than red because there was some delays that would push my order until summer or late summer (I didn't hear the exact date as I was actually off roading in my Bronco at the time lol).

Anybody else get a call from Nissan recently?

Hmmm... that's interesting. Well! The plot thickens...
Jimmy’s been a sales rep there for multiple years so that’s why I asked him specifically to verify it’s current availability

That's really weird, I called them about it about a week ago and they told me "it was reserved for a friend of one of the sales guys"
I picked up my gray Platinum+ model at Korum over the weekend and eyeballed the red model out in front of the showroom. My dealer rep said it was available. Part of me thought about changing my order to scoop up the red, but decided against it in the end.

IMHO you did the right thing as I’m sure the grey-blue interior goes well with your choice of paint color. For the life of me I just can’t understand why Nissan didn’t offer at least one neutral interior color for the top tier trim.

Agree on the interior. I’d kill for the red though. I know I’m going to be bitter about that driving around in my boring blue if it ever arrives.

Maybe get in touch with Nissan, and tell them you've changed your mind about color and want the red even though it may take longer. It's worth a shot! Or it's also possible another red orphan will show up!

I can't wait much longer. If it doesn't happen by end of this month I'll probably move on. I was ready to buy a new car over 2 years ago. Then discovered the Ariya, figured I could wait a bit, then the preorder hits, ok I can wait a bit longer, delay, delay, delay, delay. Now my trade in value has fallen significantly, interest rates have shot up, and tax credit is a hard gamble if I don't trigger an audit trying to claim.

The sellers realize that too, so I hope that there may be some incentives on the horizon. So far, some of those who took delivery in 2023 and applied for the credit under the Transition rule have already received their refunds. I took delivery 10 days ago and just recently submitted my amended return, so time for patience again.

I too just got my second call about the Passion Red, trying to get me to switch for another color. I’m also sticking with the red, although the guy on the phone said that will push my delivery to late 2023, or possibly early 2024.

I asked why all the AWD reviews online seem to show a Passion Red, and he just said it’s a brand new color and they wanted to showcase it. (Apparently it’s also an option on the new “Z” as well). But he said there are just so many reservationists that want this color, and it seems to be a limited supply. Not much I can do about it since I really want that color. But it’s crazy to me how “late fall 2022” has suddenly turned into “early winter 2024”, and even that’s not guaranteed at this point.

If the Passion Red is so popular, it makes me want to sell my White Evolve+ to my sister so I can get the Passion Red EmPower+ for myself.... I think I will be the only one with Passion Red within 50 miles radius. 🤔

These discussions are making us think about installing motion-activated machine gun turrets around our garage door, to protect our Passion Red Tricoat "crown jewel." 😁

I'd recommend it. I'm committed to vandalizing every Passion Red Ariya I find for the next few years. If I can't have it no one will!!!!!

@Stercus - So depending on where you live and how bad you want a Passion Red beauty please look at the dealer invoice I posted yesterday on this thread. Puyallup Nissan n Western Washington has for a PR Patinum+ in stock and currently for sale. I also posted all the salesman’s contact info. Puyallup Nissan is the largest Nissan dealer in Washington state and theres a reason for that. They are great and I’m confident their policy is to never sell above MSRP. Also if you buy from another dealer like them that isn’t connected to your original reservation all you have to do is call the Ariya 1-800 number to transfer your $1240 reservation credit to a new dealer. Hope this helps.🙂

I did actually look into it. Even contacted the dealer in AZ who has one. At the end of the day though It would end up costing me substantially more. I'd have to pay that states sales tax (NH has no sales tax), lose my reservation credit, and costs to get it here.
You don’t loose your reservation credit. That is transferable. I was under the impression you paid sales tax in the state and county it is first registered in not where the dealer is located but that may be different when you are buying out of state, I’m not sure. You would have to coat of getting it home but that’s what the unlimited charging credit is for.

Can’t say I agree with that approach. Your beef is with Nissan, not other Ariya owners. Besides, you don’t “F” with another man’s vehicle. Haven’t you ever seen Pulp Fiction?!? 😂

Actually since Oregon is our neighboring sate with no sales tax it is quite common for Oregon residents to buy a car in Washington State if they can get a better deal here…..So I can’t imagine a Washington dealer would charge you sales tax if you can prove you are a NH resident. As far as the reservation…..I personally had to buy from a different dealer than my reservation had directed my Deep Ocean Blue Evolve+ to. I actually found a NL Evolve + from a dealer 100 miles from home 🏡 and was able to have them deduct my $1240.00 right off the invoice. So again if you really want a Platinum+ Passion Red all you have to lose is yourskin time and a plane ticket. So if you end up doing that just make sure they write on your invoice what the $1240.00 is your reservation credit so you can prove your 2023 car sale is deductible when you amend your 2022 tax return.

Was on Edmunds today and it says there is a red Platinum + at Nissan North in Columbus OH.

Another in Chandler AZ, and a third in Puyallup WA.
From the convo I had with them I wouldn't need to actually go there but would need to hire and pay for a car carrier to bring it. That would be alot cheaper and less stressful then flying out and attempting to drive cross country with it. That would certainly be a hardcore dive into the deep end with my first EV for sure.

They said they are giving the reservation holder till today to decide to purchase or not. We'll see how it goes from there.

Ohio I would fly and drive home from. Plenty of charging from there to NH and I could be a little leisurely about it by stoping in a Hotel halfway with an EV charger. I just reached out to the dealer.
