Pro Pilot Assist 2.0 subscription length

In the website's description for the subscription options, Nissan indicates the Pro Pilot Assist 2.0 subscription is 5 years and the basic Select subscription for remote access is 3 years, per below.

However, my account shows the Select subscription lasting 5 years and Pro Pilot only 3. I asked my personal consultant about this and they said it was a mistake on the website and they are going to fix it.

Does anyone else with Pro Pilot Assist 2.0 also see the 5 year time period currently listed on the website?

Wait pro pilot 2.0 is a subscription?

And have you or anyone been able to connect to alexa?

The subscription would be for updated map data, traffic info, etc. Would it still work without updated info? I'm not sure - I asked but haven't heard a reply.

I would've preferred navigation to be a separate thing (tied to standard data subscription) and the advanced driving features to be baked into the hardware. If it stops working after the subscription that'd be a pretty big strike against them.

I haven't tried out Alexa yet. I mainly use Alexa for weather and timers/alarms... not so much use inside a car.
Ya that's terrible. I wasn't aware of that, hopefully you are able to get clarification or someone else knows the answer.

Ya. This makes me angry right here. My main reason for purchasing the Empower trim was the propilot 2.0. We paid more to get that in the vehicle, wasn't aware it wasn't included and given for the life of the vehicle.

I was looking to keep this for a long time, but I think I'll keep my reservation for the fisker and EV9 now. This isn't cool at all.

At the top of the page, make sure you have your trim selected correctly. Your image is for "EMPOWER+ FWD , PLATINUM+ e-4ORCE AWD". Select option 1 for Evolve, etc... What you get is different depending on the trim. For Evolve+, obviously there's no ProPilot Assist 2.0 subscription, but Select for NissanConnect lasts for 5 years.

Yes, the subscription is for map updates for changes in the roads, construction zones, etc. There's a lot of data, and a lot of changes to that data - details maps of the roads, for making hands-free driving work.

ProPilot 1.0 just uses the onboard sensors but ProPilot 2.0 also relies on HD map data in order for it to provide hands-free driving capability. From that standpoint I can see why it would require an ongoing subscription instead of being baked into the system since updated map data will be important to keep the system properly functioning. Just as an example, if a freeway section gets reprofiled then it's important for the vehicle to be aware of that in order to anticipate it and slow down if needed. And then there's potential upgrades to the software to improve functionality. All of that costs significant money - anyone who's ever had to deal with or followed software development knows it's not cheap - so I can't begrudge Nissan asking for a subscription as long as they're actually providing continued upkeep to the system and the price is reasonable.

And other manufacturers do the same btw. Both GM Supercruise and Ford Bluecruise are 3 years free to start but then require a renewal. And Nissan's free years of use seem much better than being asked to pay 10-15 grand upfront for "full self-driving" that's in a beta test state and is liable to drive you into a parked fire truck.

This is also very different from what other manufacturers (cough, BMW, cough) are doing where they install hardware that's always in the car and never changes but you have to pay a fee to enable it.

Exactly. Even now updated the pro pilot 2.0 disengages a good amount of times due to map not being updated. I can only imagine it without the subscription.

Lol. That's the concept I seen videos of spy shots of them testing it, it doesn't have that. Concepts always have crazy designs that don't actually make it into production. I hate Concepts, just show me the real thing.

Thanks, this makes sense. Still makes me a little cautious. I don't need or want my car to drive for me, but I can see myself using the feature just enough to enjoy it over time, then desiring it later. Guess that's the plan though. BTW, Lexus also does something similar as well with their NX and RX models.

Yes, I chose the right most option for Empower (what the Premier essentially rebadged to).

Interesting find that if you choose the left side trims Select is for 5 years. Sounds like Nissan did make an error on the website and the ProPilot Assist 2.0 subscription is only meant 3 years. +$3500 for 3 years of use seems steep.

So do we need to sign up for this or it's automatically started?

Funnily enough, both. :)

The timer starts on the day you make your purchase/lease, so that's what the expiration will be based on.

But to actually use any of these features you need sign up for a Nissan Connect account and add the VIN to your profile. I believe the dealer would typically set this up on the day of purchase, but because I was buying someone else's cancelled reservation they had to work through some things on the back end. It ended up taking them 2 weeks, and I had to sign up on my own.

Ok. I already been using the feature so I guess they set it up.

I wouldn't buy an Ariya without it..
