Did you check to see if they will let you take a car that comes in later? Of course if you have a Premiere, these are probably limited in numbers.

For anyone looking to cancel their Ariya, please don’t walk away empty handed. Establish a relationship with the salesman, and ask your salesman if he/she can help you find a buyer who is willing to pay you $X to get your reservation. Offer him/her $500 commission once the deal is closed.

That sounds like a good idea! I reserved a Premiere FWD, but honestly I'm thinking more about the Platinum AWD. Maybe I'll go ahead with the Premiere and consider trading up after a while...

This article takes about a general lease without considering the new IRS guidance on commercial lease companies being eligible for $7500 credit. That changes the equation quite a bit for imported cars If upheld after Manchin objections And lease companies start passing it on to consumers.

For those hoping to apply for a federal tax credit, unless you secured a singed sales agreement with your dealer prior to 8-16-22 youre probably out of luck. My understanding with Nissan is the email documents that they sent out last November follows your reservation number. So if you try to switch horses (I mean Ariya’s ) and want to choose another model other than was designated by your reservation it would generate an issue. Here’s a little background to support that: When the official Ariya launch took place in the US September 27, 2022 Nissan finally revealed the current line up including AWD Engage + etc. Soon thereafter I asked my dealer if I could convert my Evolve + FWD to an Evolve + AWD. So my dealer contacted Nissan and their response was troubling. Seems I could cancel my reservation at any time for a refund. However there would also be three drawbacks if I did so if I still intended to purchase an Ariya. :#1Inwoukd lose my $1240.00 reservation credit, #2 I would have to place my order with the dealer who would have to wait to place that order after all 2023 reservations had been fulfilled,#3. The new order placed for the AWD would no longer qualify under the transition rule tax credit clause .

I would love to lease and capture the $7500 credit but Nissan may not pass it through via cap reduction and if I can’t buyout the lease then it’s all moot.

At this point the test drive has to wow me.

And it's clear it's written by a Tesla fanboy.

To answer your question, I backed out on mine after much study of the law and the so-called binding agreement Nissan had me sign. First off, if Nissan doesn’t sign it, it cannot be truly binding. And the fact that i was able to get my deposit back after refusing the car proves that out. Good luck if you take yours and try to get the tax incentive. I am pulling for you.

They called before Christmas and indicated I should have it before the end of the year. Had that happened, the tax credit was still in effect and I would’ve taken it. It came in on the 3rd of January and it is all about the day you take possession. I had to play it safe since the credit was important to me.

My thinking was that the $7500 made it a more reasonable price and competitive with some other EVs In the 40s. Without the incentive, it is pretty much what a Cadillac Lyriq is after the rebate. Yeah, I know that Lyriq doesn‘t qualify right now, but I am fairly certain GM will get that straightened out when the the IRS changes come in March.

I had moved it to another dealer just in case I wanted out. That was mostly because I didn’t want the original dealer to have the car if I backed out. They were upcharging me up to 5 grand, so that was the real reason I changed. I don’t mind the newer dealer having it to sell and they do have it on their web site now.

I drove the car before I told them I was not accepting delivery. Just had to out of curiosity. Love the appearance of the car inside and out, mostly inside. It was quiet and comfortable and the ProPilot 2.0 worked great. I’m not a fan of a few things I found, but won’t prejudice your opinion of your cars with my complaints. They were very minor and I probably would not have noticed them for long. It is a nice vehicle and those that go through with the deal will enjoy it.

If they ever make it in Smyrna, I’ll probably grab one. Hope you love yours…

My car has arrived early when dealer called to say it is in. Evolve+. Test drove it. Felt very luxurious. Japanese factory build quality shows. We have ioniq5 as well and the sound of regen braking is much less than ioniq5. The pano sunroof and heated rear seats and interior made it feel very high end. The lighting elements front and back and lighted emblem really make it stand out. Few factors to consider even with $7500 on the bubble. Firstly the reservationist discount helps partially. And if one qualifies for the 2.59% APY a 40k loan might save $800/year Compared to a 4.75% 3 year CD one can park money into. So all in all we are thinking of going ahead after the test drive. Car companies have been slightly shy of raising prices due to inflation. But they will in two ways. increase MSRP and reduce features. Ioniq 5 SEL for example lost the cool led grill for 2023 model. Nissan might be forced to do that as well to cut costs. Since we made reservations it has been 7% inflation in the economy. That would be more like a $3000 MSRP increase.Things for folks with reservations to ponder over.

Thanks for your insights. With the December 30 guidelines issued by the IRS, it doesn’t look good for reservationists taking delivery in 2023. I ordered the AWD version, so I am one of those persons. It is very disappointing, but I will turn down the vehicle if I cannot get the $7500 legacy tax credit. Perhaps it will be the VW ID.4 for me?

I am also thinking of canceling. When Nissan had their Ariya show and tell roadshow, I did drive it for two laps. But that was a demo car so I will go in for a test drive (rep called last week their testdrive car is in). My short test drive was good as it rides better than our Tesla model 3. Without the tax credit I may pass. I also placed an order for an ID4 and it been travelling from Tennessee to California on a slow train for the last two weeks. For what they charge for destination you would think it gets here in a week. The ID4 is at MSRP and prices recently went up January 6th. Will need to test drive it but price will be in the low 40s as it qualifies for the tax credit.

Thinking about canceling as well. The complete lack of information and communication is frustrating. Basically a long game of kick the can. Reach out to the dealership and they don’t know anything and say they will call back but in the mean time to contact Nissan. Reach out to Nissan and they kick you right back to speak with the dealer. We can’t even get clarification if MSRP will be honored. Probably give it to the end of the month to be provided with some type of update before moving on.

Those are some very good points. The reservation process and subsequent dealership experience is clearly not a smooth and well oiled machine, and people are encountering both good and bad. I think I'll wait until the last second to decide whether to walk away and get my 500 bucks back! Any weirdness around the $1240 rebate, any useless (to me) options added, things like that of course will help decide. The $7500 is the elephant in the room for many. I'm still kind of thinking about just getting what I reserved and trading later...hmmm
