Ride Harshness

Had to bring our 23 Sienna minivan to the shop - man it glides over the bumbs, makes me question is the ariya riding on wooden wheels...

I know the bigger battery have a bigger break therefore 18" wheels are out of the picture, not really sure what to do to soften the ride.

I went with my friend in his bz4x and it felt a lot more compliments and easy over street imperfections.

Not sure if the Bridgestone are getting too dry or something, side not it shows 1904 for the date of build, which feels really old for 2023 car.

You might try lowering the tire pressure slightly.

The Ariya suspension seems to be for higher speeds. At lower speeds it is stiffer in order to handle the battery weight, which is larger than a bz4x battery. Although I find it better than riding in the RAV4. Toyota suspension is faster on local streets, but can be rougher.

I lowered it to 35, but it didn't seem to help that much, wondering if different type of tires would help (a guy at work told me avoid the "stones" Firestone and Bridgestone) as they ride a lot harder than other brand, Idk if I want to believe this, our toyota minivan came with Firestone

What would you guys think the lowest a guy should go 32psi or 30psi

Thank you!

HI - I have the Hankook tires on my radar when I need new tires. Did the new tires require the ariya tire pressure gauge system in the car be adjusted for Hankook recomnmended PSI? And does the automatic tire pressure sensor system work correctly now? Or maybe the Hankook have the same recommended PSI ????

Yeah, I am not really sure where these complaints come from, I think maybe it is all about what someone is used to or comparing to. Coming off a G37S, the ride in the Aryia is much softer and calm, to me. It had lower-profile tires, weighed a lot less, and tighter suspension (and it did handle cornering oh so much nicer). Of course, the G37S is much closer to sports car.

I, personally, don't have a lot of vehicle driving experience comparisons. But I ride along often in my friend's older BMW X3 and it seems much more harsh than the Aryia over the same roads/routes I take the Aryia.

Sienna really? That is your basis for comparison. A wallowy sloppy boat like setup. Can not please everyone I guess. I drove the Ariya across the country literally thru all sorts of road conditions and the Ariya never had problems because of the bumps in the road, even with the poor sh@!thole road conditions in Iowa.

I think this falls under the realm of personal expectations. some prefer a smooth ride regardless of road conditions. Other like myself aren't put off by some bumpiness. I've never had a vehicle that had an overall smooth ride. Maybe because I couldn't afford buying such a vehicle and that when buying a vehicle it was never high on the criteria list. What look for is how quiet and solid the ride is. To each their own.

My 1999 Sienna rides better than our Ariyas. We also have a Tesla and the Ariya ride way better. The tires that came with the care were low cost tires with less tread depth (starter tires). We changed out the tires on our first Ariya with another brand, and it's riding a little better. I'm able to compare the ride to our second Ariya which still have the OEM tires. When you're ready to replace the tires, you can read up the reviews of the tires on America's tires and the rating on comfort. The Hankook EVO that @ab13 mentioned were rated well for comfort and distance.

The Ariya definitely rides better on the freeways. Our local roads are full of potholes that our 5000 pound car cannot seem to avoid.

My Ariya is the most uncomfortable car on rough city roads that I ever had.
The suspension system is made of wood.
I'm currently having it modified by a french shock absorber manufacturer.
This company works for car competition and is usually requested to make the suspension stiffer.
I just asked them the countrary.
They are going to modify the front shock absorbers to make them adjustable.
They are also going to replace the rear ones.
They will also probably replace the springs which are way too stiff on this car.
I'll keep you informed of the results.

I also think the ariya is a bit too strutty. Maybe the reason is that it's an EV, with a heavy battery? And to deal with all sorts of regulations and tests, like the moose test, they need to make it hard?
My previous EV, a hyundai kona electric 2020 had also this strutty behaviour.

Hi,

I have 4eforce 87kw Ariya equiped with 19 rims (dunlop sport maxx 235.55.19) an i think the suspension is stiff. I had rav4 plugin with 18 rims and was more confortable in urban streets, may be similar in highways (ariya is ready for higher speeds and difficult roads).

We wait your results after changing shock absorvers or spings in order to change any next years.

I will be ok buying different shocks, tires are on their last leg, which is weird considering the car has only 24k miles on it and those tires are rated for 40k miles.

I was going to install Blackhawk, we bought them as a budget tires for my teenage son car and they turned out to be really good (quite; way quiter than the michilens he had before, softer, and best traction we experienced in that car) and considering they only cost $550 installed, I wouldn't mind changing them after 20k miles.

My father had his tires replaced by the dealership with Advanta ER-800, his Dunlap kicked the bucket at 17k miles (we have identical cars except color, his came with Dunlop and mine with Bridgestone 🤷‍♂️)

Looking at the advanta at Tirerack and they are very cheap ~=$588, but the ride is basically the same as my car albeit it is a lot quieter

Blitz provides a suspension kit.
  • A height-adjustable suspension kit that combines full-length adjustable suspension with electronically controlled damping force adjustment.

All in japanese, If you select english, the main page switches to english but then if you click on a link, it's japanese again and no way to select english.
I don't know wether my Ariya is FEO, SNFEO or that bunch of jap characters...

Also, I don't know if the springs they supply are of the same stiffness, stiffer or less stiff than the originals.
