Tax Credit, I thought I knew.

I filed for an extension so I could file when I have a VIN to put in Turbo tax. Then I read in Consumer reports last night that you can't claim the credit on a car ordered last year after 18 April this year. Has my plan fallen apart or is there still hope.

I suspect CR is referring to the new mineral requirements for the new incentive. If you're a reservationist and signed the binding agreement, you fall under the transition plan for the old rules. See this page, specifically starting with the section titled "Purchase date vs. delivery date":
The IRS suggests amending your return rather than filing for an extension, but either seems viable.
The Ariya not qualifying for the Federal Tax Credit is going to kill sales unless dealers drop the price $5k-$7500k. The price is not competitive. I looked a the Ariya about 2 years ago and liked it, but it took too long to come to market.
