Has anyone in this forum heard a reasonable explanation of why Nissan keeps messing around with the Passion Red as a paint color option for the Ariya? I’m sure many of you recall during the early months of the reservation period, Passion Red Tr-coat paint was available in the US market only if you reserved Platinum+ trim. Then around May of 2022, our portals mysteriously indicated that the color Passion Red was sold out. I remember many forum members, including myself, were perplexed how a paint color could be sold out when production hadn’t even started yet. Then on September 27, 2022 when the US official Ariya launch began, Passion Red Tricoat paint appears as an option again and even the Evolve trim level could be had in Red.

Fast forward to 2023. Passion Red Tri-coat is MIA AGAIN! So am I missing something or are dealers as Tustin Nissan compelled to wrap a couple of their Ariya’s Red because they’ve been told by Nissan that the Passion is gone?

Yeah I don't get it! It's like the US gets stuck with all the crummy choices!

I believe Tustin Nissan did the wrap because they wanted something different, and also I believe they had too many Black Diamonds on their lots. This is only my observation while visiting the dealer seeing too many Black Diamonds on the lot.

I wonder what the other color wrap will be besides that one Passion Red wrap? Will find out and whether Passion Red can still be order.

I'm still waiting on my Platinum Red. I think I'll burn every Nissan dealership to the ground if when it finally arrives around Christmas it isn't Red. It's bad enough the the top trim only comes in baby blue interior (seriously Nissan, WTF??)

I just got a call from Nissan. They said if I want to stick with the Passion Red, I would be waiting until late summer for delivery. I'm guessing that means Fall 2023....

They gave me the option to change color to improve delivery, so I ended up switching to the Copper color. Really really disappointing.

If you ordered a Platinum trim with Passion Red, expect a call from Nissan shortly.

im not a paint chemist, but I have seen red paint fade badly in the past. I wonder if there is a stabilizer for the red that is in short supply.

On the plus side, it sounds like the Platinum manufacturping is getting queued up.

My initial reservation was Passion Red. Once I had a chance to view an actual gray-blue color interior swatch at a ride and drive event last summer, I just couldn’t bring myself to continue down that path. I ended up settling for a FWD trim with more appealing interior color choices. So in the US market for the Platinum + trim- when a buyer has no other choice but to combine an ugly blue interior with Passion Red paint, I totally agree with Stercus’ comment (“seriously Nissan WTF?) “

I currently have a 2015 Red Murano. When clean the color looks the same as when new. The fade may have been true back in the day but I don't believe it's an issue with now, at least with most major brands.

More delay because of paint choice? Sheesh! What else can they think of... oh, well. Honestly, I'd be willing to wait for a Platinum AWD in copper, and swap the copper Premiere FWD that I still haven't received...

Wait the red exterior comes with that blue interior? Lol. Please tell me I'm misunderstanding here.

Believe it or not, a lot of the issues related to car paint colors have to do with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. One of the major components of paint color is titanium dioxide. And guess who is the major supplier - Ukraine. It is messing up the supply of paints, particularly lighter shades.
