If you're a reservationist and signed the binding agreement, you should qualify under the 2022 rules (and tax year) even if you take delivery in 2023.

If you're not a reservationist or didn't sign the agreement, it doesn't qualify because it's not made in the North America.
Hi atreis. I reserved mine Feb 2022 an got it Feb 2023... so how would that work with taxes next year? Ty!

I have read through both the law and regulation multiple times. Both say the same thing on pre law binding agreements. The BEV (Ariya in this case) is considered "placed in-service" on the date of the agreement.

If you signed the binding agreement for reservationists, then from here:

Purchase date vs. delivery date
If you entered a written binding contract to buy a vehicle after December 31, 2021, and before August 16, 2022, but took delivery on or after August 16, 2022, you may elect to claim the credit based on the prior rules. To elect the credit under the prior rules you must elect the credit on your 2022 tax return after you take delivery of the vehicle. Depending on the date the vehicle is delivered, you can claim the credit on your original, superseding, or amended 2022 tax return.

Did you sign the binding agreement before August 16, 2022? I signed the agreement and filed my taxes recently after I got the car with the EV tax credit for 2022 taxes. I also selected audit defense from TurboTax in case of any issue with this or the other new items in my taxes. I think it was $45, but when I paid by credit card it was discounted $10, so I paid $35. From what I understand it's only good for 2022 taxes using the binding contract.

Hi.. no I did not sign the binding contract because I was not sure if I wanted the car. I owned my murano. I guess next year we will see.

I need a little help from my forum members. I"m doing my taxes now on TurboTax. As an early reservationist with a binding contract, what do I put in the field:
"Date Acquired"? Do I put 08-16-22?
"Date Plug In placed in Service"? I bought my Ariya on Feb 1, 2023. When I clicked on this field, it automatically defaulted to 08-16-22 but on the next screen it says the date should be 08-15-22. (the day before the binding contract was signed, 08-16-22).

This is where I was hung up....

TIA

If you scroll down to specific instructions, line 3. I used that, and it goes in both dates. I submitted my taxes almost 2 weeks ago, so waiting to see the result, but I did sign up for audit defense through TurboTax, $35 on credit card.

Line 3
Enter 08/15/2022 if you qualify and elect to apply the transition rule discussed below.

Thank you very much!

My poor tax planning for 2022 cost me dearly. I did not think we would qualify for the $7500 credit so I did not bother to unload some of my long term capital tax gains.

For a while we were all pretty much in limbo, and the conservative assumption was that there would not be a credit. I think some forum members still remain uncertain about the credit. As for me, if I do go ahead with my Ariya purchase, I'll amend my return.

Hello, first post. We took position of our Ariya Platinum+ last week. So far, the car is nice, the service is not.

There is a 2k refund from the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project website. There is also a rebate for the charger install I believe, IRS Form 8911. It looks very difficult to understand, so we are going to take our paperwork to our tax accountant for help on this one.
And don't forget that the car is eligible for the HOV lane, at lease here in CA for $22.
Cheers!

Form 8911 is for b'ness purposes, for personal/individual tax credit, the $7500 is the one, but only if you have the binding contract agreement before 8/16/2022. In 2023, Ariya is not qualified.
CA has more rebates and other incentives than TX, for sure, as gas prices are high.

Just did my tax return using TurboTax. Entered the date 8/15/22 and my Ariya infos, then the $7500 tax credit went through without any checking error. I have a copy of my purchase agreement pre 8/16/22 ready if requested by the IRS.

Since we just took delivery of our Ariya yesterday I hustled in to our accountant this morning and explained why we waited so long to file until the last minute. He said no problem, he will just file for an extension before the deadline on the 18th. He considered that approach would require fewer steps vs actually filing our return and then amending that return at a later date.

Filing extension only is good if you don't owe any taxes. Otherwise, you should estimate and pay any owed taxes by your regular deadline to help avoid possible penalties and interests.. The inconvenience of filing amended tax is not electronically, you have to mail it in, and doing the taxes twice to show the differences...

No No! The CA Clean Air rebate is super duper easy to fill out. It’s one of the easiest forms I ever filled out. Once you submit, the check will be in the mail within 7-8 business days. I was shocked how easy it was!

Congrats on FINALLY getting your Ocean Blue Evolve+! Was there a post that I missed about your purchase yesterday?

If you do your tax filing on TurboTax, it’s actually very easy for the rebate. It’s so easy that a monkey can do it. 😂
